But we really aren't talking about pre-installed software because there has always been a media player in Windows! Even in Version 3.1. And there's always been a Notepad and if some company complained about that because they want to cash in on text editors, the EU would be all over Microsoft. And what about Format.exe. It's a separate piece of software. Does it need to be untied as well?
The EU's actions probably harm consumers and may help some of Microsoft's competitors. As a US consumer, I don't want to pay more money for my computer. And as a US citizen, the EU's thirst for power scares me!

Apple writes their own OS, let Sony do the same if they want to compete.
And Apple ties their media player and iTunes to both their computers and iPods. Is that not abusive as well?
It depends on where you live. US law protects consumers from the abuses of monolopies. European law is designed to aid the competetors of dominant companies. The protection of consumers is not the goal of European law.
