  1. Review - Yahoo! Messenger for Windows

    8.1.0.413 (Jul 17, 2007)

Still the best IM network IMHO. Works great with YTK Pro www.ytkpro.com

  2. Review - McAfee SuperDAT Update

    4650 (Dec 18, 2005)

The super dat is excellent. Database size doesn't matter though. F-Prot has over 200,000 entries yet McAfee and Kaspersky who have about 25% less signature entries both do better in independant testing. The detection ability has little to do with database size in numbers. Generic and heuristic technologies in engines has a lot to do with this. Consider NOD32 threatsence engine, Kaspesky's excellent generic detection signatures, Normans Sandbox etc.

  3. Review - Norton Internet Security

    2006 Beta Version 9.1 (Dec 17, 2005)

    "Reviewer: Kushan Dec 16, 2005
    Version: 2006 Beta Version 9.1

It's detection rates are abysmal and it uses up far too much system resources.
Nod32 is a much better example
As for a firewall, Kerio is better than anything NPF has to offer and it hasn't been updated in a while."

Hmm. I'm no fan of Symantec myself but I have to say there is a few things wrong with your review. It's clear to me you never used this product - at least not this version.

[1]Symantec's detection rates are amongst the best - see http://www.av-comparatives.org/

[2]NOD32 is execllent for heuristic detection of 'itw' malware but for trojan detection it has a lot of ground to make up. I like NOD32 - but believe it or not Symantec has slightly better detection rate regardless of the extra load on system resources.

[3]Kerio Personal Firewall has been discontinued. It has been purchased by Subbelt software. We will see if this remains to be a top firewall.

If you are to review an antivirus product you must first install it :) and analyse it from multiple perspectives in no particular order ie. user friendliness (UI), detection & disinfection* including reaction to new malware, stability, resource consumption, customer support and a few more.

*Taking detection as a given, some products fail to handle the disinfection of malware properly and this can lead to problems removing an infection without the help of a 3rd party tool.
