    march 2006 update download links:

dec 2005 full install download links:

This is so much more usefull than complaining about a broken link.

  2. Review - Microsoft Max

    1.0 (Sep 15, 2005)

Useless program, but it adds WinFX to the NTFS system, and IMPROVES searching greatly.

  3. Review - CDex

    1.60 Beta 1 (Apr 25, 2005)

Many of the files were altered or added on 3/7/05, but there's no entry in the "changes" log and no mention of this beta on the website. The expected file name was 1.60, not 2.60; and I don't see the changes within the interface except that the version is now 1.60. Early beta, but stable as ususal.

  4. Review - Microsoft Windows Installer

    3.1.4000.1823 Redistributable (Apr 12, 2005)

replaces INSTMSI.EXE, nothing earthshattering new. I just works on XP sp2, fixes a few minor issues.

  5. Comment - Has 'beta' lost its meaning?

    3.1.4000.1823 Redistributable (Sep 8, 2009 - 2:54 PM)

I remember when BetaNews meant something to me. Now it's a mess of advertising and articles, much like TomsHardware. It's lost it's focus.

  6. Comment - Microsoft on Win7 Beta: 'The download experience was not ideal'

    3.1.4000.1823 Redistributable (Jan 12, 2009 - 12:47 PM)

I couldn't download it Friday (like everyone else). Sunday went off without a hitch, downloading both betas at once. I've been using the X86 beta of W7 for the past few weeks, and feel that this is the most polished Windows beta that I can rememeber since Windows 98SE. I'm so happy with it I'm going to attempt to switch to W7 now.

  7. Comment - Microsoft snags key Photoshop developer from Adobe

    3.1.4000.1823 Redistributable (May 1, 2008 - 7:01 PM)

What I find most annoying about Vista, besides that it saps all the speed out of almost any PC, is that everything has been rearranged for no apparent reason other than "it's new". I can deal with the annoying program stops and even IE7 (which annoys me because the tool bars won't move into one and "it's new" arrangement) with all it's idiot icons. But something has got to give, eye candy isn't so important that everyone needs the next generation PC to run it.

  8. Comment - WD shrinks the size of portable 320 GB capacity

    3.1.4000.1823 Redistributable (Mar 26, 2008 - 1:05 PM)

It depends on the total throughput of the drive, USB can only handle so much data. Large files can quickly overwhelm the USB throughput, but smaller ones that require constant seeking and rotational latancies can make a slight difference in favor of the 7200rpm units. The real world experience (for me) is nearly nil. Older 7200 rpm units use previous generation densities, and the 320GB unit uses much higher densities. The 2.5" sector does not parallel the 3.5" sector when it comes to size/speed/throughput because they are limited to two disks.

  9. Comment - WD shrinks the size of portable 320 GB capacity

    3.1.4000.1823 Redistributable (Mar 25, 2008 - 10:38 PM)

I have one of these 320g SATA drives in my laptop (installed it last week) and it's quicker than my old 160g 7200 rpm drive. It's also a tad quieter and doesn't get warm at all. I can't complain. The 160g went into a portable enclosure for backup purposes.
