Best, nuff said. Firefox zealots like gawd21 are lying about Opera because they know that this move will kill Firefox.
8.01 (Jun 5, 2005)
Opera "phones home" by loading a page on startup? Yeah, like Firefox and IE "phone home" when you load the homepage?
Talk about FUD. Did you know, Opera actually "phones home" all the time to check for upgrades? Just the way IE and Firefox do?
8.0 Technical Preview 5 Build 7497 (Mar 5, 2005)
CapZap, how about paying attention before whining about a PREVIEW?
The Window menu is there if you turn on the advanced Opera workspace in the Windows preferences.
Oh yeah, and how is Opera 8 not "mean and lean"? It's a LOT cleaner than older versions. What top, bottom etc. menus?! It doesn't even show the PANELS by default.
----------------------------------------
Oh yeah, and this jofin character and his "adware" comment...
Why wouldn't people install Opera because it's adware? IT DOES NOT install adware on your PC, as the ads are BUILT INTO OPERA!
So there's no spyware or anything, so quit spreading lies about Opera.
1.0 Final (Nov 13, 2004)
Security issues, crashing and incompatibilities... I am extremely disappointed :(
This promised so much... A secure, stable, compatible version of Internet Explorer. But sadly, this was not to be the case.
First thing: Extensions. Firefox is nearly useless without them, but the problem is that extensions are written by random people all over the world, and the system is very insecure.
Also Firefox crashes all the time! I don't think I've been able to run it for an hour without a crash.
And finally, it has problems with real web sites. It can't even render SLASHDOT correctly!
Look, W3C is nice and all, but Firefox will never succeed if this attitude of "you are wrong, we are right" continues. Firefox has to work on the REAL web, not some open-source dream web.
Sorry, but it just doesn't cut it. Maybe I'll try Firefox 2.0 to see if they've gotten a clue by then...
7.60 Build 7321 Preview 3 (Nov 13, 2004)
This is silly. Opera has great support for W3C standards AND nonstandard code. Its JavaScript engine is much faster than Firefox/Gecko.
Thumbs up!
7.60 Build 7321 Preview 3 (Sep 20, 2005 - 1:31 PM)
Opera slowed down Firefox and your system?
Yeah, right.
How come no one else has experienced this?
Look, if you don't like Opera that's fine. But don't go around lying about it and giving other Firefox fans a bad reputation.
Your lies here are just you being defensive because you know that Opera is going to kick Firefox's butt :)
7.60 Build 7321 Preview 3 (Sep 20, 2005 - 1:30 PM)
"I am the one that is supporting a failing company that had to do a last ditch effort to save themsevles by making the crap free"
Opera failing? It's been around for ten years, and Opera Software is making more money than ever, and is hiring new people like mad to keep up with demand.
You are deluding yourself if you think Opera is failing. Actually, making Opera free is a way to make even more money:

You Firefox zealots sure know how to give the Firefox community a bad reputation...
7.60 Build 7321 Preview 3 (Sep 20, 2005 - 1:29 PM)
"This is a 8.1 release at best."
This isn't supposed to be a feature release. That comes later, with something called "Merlin" which will have loads of goodies. Some Opera guy blogged about it.
And they will make money, be sure of it! Look at this:

7.60 Build 7321 Preview 3 (Apr 21, 2005 - 7:32 PM)
What is this, OSS FUD day? Hehe...
> I dont like a browser that forces you to
> include features that you dont want (the same
> way people whine about what MS does with
> windows).
Illogical and irrelevant argument. Opera keeps everything out of the user's way until he wants it. And besides, it's a smaller download than Firefox anyway, so it doesn't matter. Also, Firefox comes with a few features. By your logic, Firefox is "forcing it on you like MS". Please.
> It seems to be totally closed to third parties
> wanting to add stuff to it,
That's wrong. You can add toolbars, menus, bookmarklets, panels, and so on. There are lots of ways to extend Opera. It's very easy to customize!
> and the users on their forums flame you to no
> end when you even hint at the topic.
Wrong. They flame you when you troll and make obviously wrong and inflammatory statements like the above.

Hahahahaha...

ALL of the things you mentioned ALREADY EXISTED IN OPERA YEARS AGO! Searching bookmarks, yep. You have been able to do that for ages, even using "quick search". Quick search for pages is called "inline find" or "type ahead find", and was in Opera ages before Mozilla added it. And yep, tabbed browsing came in Opera long before it appeared in Firefox as well.
> Plus, when Firefox crashes, it doesn't crash

Exactly the same with Opera! Only with Opera, you start where you left off before the crash!

Great, but what does all of this have to do with Opera?
Read this again:
ALL THE THINGS YOU LOVE IN FIREFOX WERE ALL IN OPERA FIRST, AGES BEFORE FIREFOX GOT THEM!
