  1. Review - The GIMP

    2.2.6 (May 1, 2005)

GIMP is an excellent application for working with bitmap images. At first I was also a bit confused with the interface but I didn't give up so quickly as the others and now I find it very usefull and logical. I highly recommend GIMP to anyone who can't afford the very expensive commercial apps. It does almost everything and it is completely free. It is also nice that you can run it in Linux.

  2. Review - Skype for Windows

    1.1.0.73 (Jan 20, 2005)

My sister told me about Skype and I like it a lot. Simple, great sound and there is also works in Linux. It will be a nice addition to communicating over Jabber.

Still very nice Jabber application. I'm using it a lot in Linux. BTW you can also download it with emule and similar ED2K applications. Links are here:

  4. Review - Mozilla Firefox for Windows (v2)

    1.0 Final (Nov 9, 2004)

Simply the best browser for me. It helped me get rid of all popups and spywre I was getting thru Internet Explorer. Firefox also loads pages quite a bit faster. A very important thing for me is also that it is regularly translated into my mother language. I can't live without tabs anymore and the support for new internet standards is superb. It is great to be using a modern and secure browser. Thanks for this awsome piece of software Mozilla team!

As far as I know Jabber is only supported in Pro version and not in the free one.

First of all congatulations and a big thanks to developers, artists and everyone else who make it possible for us to use this awsome browsers. Firefox is simply the best. Fast, secure and a lot of very nice modern features. Extensions and themes are also a great thing. I don't even use anything else for browsing. Well from time to time I check out Opera which is also quite OK. Ie doesn't even come close to these two browsers.

  7. Comment - Security Flaws Found in Outlook, IE

Who would even use IE and OE when we have Firefox and Thunderbird which are more secure, have more features and are developed much faster. They also look a lot better and you can use themes to change the looks if you don't like the default one. And the developers actualy listen to uses when they ask them for some new feature.

  8. Comment - Gmail Storage to Reach 2GB and Beyond

    3.0 Alpha 1 (Apr 3, 2005 - 7:48 AM)

I'm so glad I switched from Hotmail to GMail. No more service interruptions, cleaner and faster interface, and POP3 access with any e-mail client like Thunderbird. And now even more space. GMail is just awsome.

  9. Comment - Google Offers to Host Wikipedia

    3.0 Alpha 1 (Feb 11, 2005 - 6:54 PM)

Thank you Google for this! I'm using Wikipedia a lot and it is becoming quite slow here. So I hope they accept this offer and make it faster. It is a truly nice encyclopedia that is created in a spirit of sharing knowledge in a similar way that opensource does it with apps. This is the way to go in the future!

  10. Comment - Windows XP x64 Edition Reaches RC2

    3.0 Alpha 1 (Feb 11, 2005 - 6:50 PM)

Having support for large amounts of memory is big adventage, but not the only one. For example with Windows XP x64 you get access to twice as much (and twice as long) general registers on CPU (kind of like an extremely fast memory on CPU). So this can speed up all current apps. If you need a lot of math with long numbers this also helps. If the number is longer then 32 bits so it can't fit into registers and 32bit CPU can't work on such numbers in one step it slows this down. And with 64-bit CPU and long registers this can now be done in one step and so it is again faster. Microsoft has also improved memory management quite a bit in Windows XP x64. So as you see there are also q number of other advantages and there will be even more in the future especialy when 64-bit apps come out. If you don't believe take a look at some almost completely 64-bit Linux distribution. For example Gentoo Linux where you can compile the whole OS and almost all the apps in 64-bits and optimized for AMD64 CPUs.
