  1. Comment - Security and the e-textbooks proposal

    (Jul 15, 2009 - 10:49 PM)

I remember backpacking books in college with a Jansport brand that held up very well and still in great shape.

Plus I only put weight on only one shoulder letting the other strap hang free - important to look cool, of course. I didn't develop a back problem but looked odd leaning a little to the right.

So I guess I should write a report proposing all backpacks be made with only one strap. :)

  2. Comment - Microsoft's move toward XML standards leads to $200 million penalty

These patent discussions can get very complicated for sure. But surely one can not patent an idea but only a detailed implementation of that idea. And what about the existence of prior art especially in this case?

I believe getting a patent at all should be much harder than it currently is.

How this for patent reform? If you produce a new idea and an actual working product you get 100% ownership, less than that you get only 50% ownership. Would that encourage less frivolous patents?

  3. Comment - Upgrading from XP to Windows 7: Does Microsoft's method work?

    (May 18, 2009 - 11:16 PM)

Give Scott a break. His intention was to help others. Most people will get W7 with a new computer anyway.

Now can someone help me upgrade the firmware on my TV? How do I transfer my favorite channels? Will my HD TV still play black-and-white video?

  4. Comment - Blu-ray sales skyrocket, provided you lower the sky

    (May 8, 2009 - 12:25 AM)

I think it's funny that Blu-ray seems to gain its own personality here. With one side cheering her favorite player on and with him losing the bet on the other.

What does Blu-ray say about this? Blu-ray just wants to be left alone without everyone arguing about him. Poor Blu-ray.

  5. Comment - Teacher must still surrender license in bizarre 'exposure to porn' suit

    (Dec 1, 2008 - 4:28 PM)

I completely disagree. Most of the moral and ethical issues today are made more complicated by technology. Are you not aware of the famous case concerning Lori Drew and MySpace? This is a very real problem.

There is much work available for computer and law enforcement experts, and security remains an urgent need both in government and private sectors.

    Good God, man. Wake up!
