Well you won't see this in the US for a while. With CDMA technology still dominating the market, the airlines would have to limit passengers from using their phones until 20,000 feet to prevent them from utilizing ground towers and paying normal rates. I wonder how this will play out..

I'm all for the lowest possible cost on my phone and internet bills, but there comes a time when even I am willing to pay extra. The Universal Service Fund is a very important program designed to equalize telecommunication costs around the country. There are obviously some places in the US that cost Utility companies an arm and a leg to provide a simply $20 a month service. I hope the government appeals this case in order to bring justified telecommunication prices to people all over the country, not just in metropolitan areas.
