  1. Review - System Safety Monitor

    2.0.0.550 Beta 1 (Mar 26, 2006)

    Superb program

NB This is a review of the official version: System Safety Monitor 2.0.0.564

I have a hardware firewall and use KAV 6. I needed an application firewall tool for taking care of outbound connections. After trialing a couple of HIPS (Host Intrusion Prevention Programs) I "discovered" SSM. This russian program is an outstanding security program. It gives me total control over the programs that are running on my machine. SSM prompts me for everything and I create rules by answering popups (often at first, sporadically thereafter): allow once, allow always etc. SSM allows a fine degree of control. I have thrown all the leaktest of firewallleaktester.com at it and I have blocked all of them. SSM also takes care of process protection by intercepting, terminate, debug or DLL injection. The program is simple to use. The company is taking care of business very seriously. They provide outstanding customer support 24/7 in 6 languages. I have send 1 email to them and this was answered within 15 minutes !
But, try it out yourself; you will not be sorry. The company allows you a 2 months (yes, two ) trial.

  2. Review - Kaspersky Anti-Virus

    6.0.0.292 RC Candidate 7 (Feb 27, 2006)

It runs flawlessy on my pc, no problems what so ever. Kaspersky is getting better and better all the time. I don't think I will every change to another AV. Great stuff !

  3. Review - BootIt Next Generation

    1.75a (Nov 24, 2005)

A 3-in-1 utility (partitioning, imaging and multiboot manager).I used the trial version on my Dell bitburner (Dimension 5000).I tried partitioning, imageing, restoring, reseizing, copying of a whole partition, burning image directly to DVD and played with multibooting. All went flawlessly. This is a veeeery reliable tool. I bought this product after using it a couple of days of intensive experimenting. The price is a steal.
The only negative thing I could find till now is the users manual: it's not clear and confusing. Although english is not my mother tongue, I noticed that some other (english speaking) users feel the same. My advice to those who want to try/buy this gem is to go to the Terabyte site (which is very good) and then to the support site of this product and select the videoýs of this product the company has put there. Also (on the same page) the Hefly's help page that contains vids showing for e.g how to partition, restore etc. One vid tells you more than x number pages of written manual. This is an easy way of grasping the concept of this program. You will notice the program is not difficult at all. After having looked at the vids the manual will be readable in most cases. By taking this order (vids, manual) you are decreasing the chance of turning your back at this program (what I almost did) because you might think that this program is for geeks and too difficult for you. It is not.

  4. Review - mst Defrag Home Edition

    1.8.30.67 (Nov 18, 2005)

I have tried them all: O&O, Perfect Disk, Voptxp. I own and use at the moment Diskeeper 9 Home.
MST defragments in the background ( you can also defragment manualy) and does this efficiently (I test this with DK analyses) and safely, this contrary to some of the others. No window error reports. Furthermore it does not slow down my system when working in the background; it is hardly noticable doing its job. It does not conflict with Kaspersky Personal. (Diskeeper’s automatical defrag "set and forget" does not work wit KAV and when running "set and forget" in combination with other AV, DK slows down my system to a crawl).
Some people will feel MST lacks some features. I do not miss bells and whistles I never use.
Martin STiemerling has done a great job. Great product.
