This download manager is fair, but I really wonder about it with so many updates. It seems to me that the developer has not really thought out the entire project and the features he wants in it. It makes me wonder what he's going to do "tomorrow."
Consequently, I uninstalled FDM and found a nice plug-in for Firefox to do the work with big files. As for those who give effusively glowing reviews, I think the reviewers might be either the developer himself or someone he paid for the review.
1.71 (Apr 13, 2007)
I'm not too happy about BetaNews telling us that K-Lite's Mega Codec Pack 1.71 works for all versions of Windows. It does not. Be warned: You need at Windows 2000 to run this version.
1.66 (Feb 26, 2007)
Up to now there have been no problems installing the Mega Codec Pack. With version 1.66, however, it hanged my system when it came time to register files.
My beef is not with the program itself, but the lack of a link on Codec Guide's web site to report problems.
I think it is about time to find an alternative to K-Lite's programs.

Why on earth does the program ask for a logon? If this is an online program I have no use for it. There are other programs tha accomplish the same thing without a logon.

Never mind the rating. What if the browser is Adware, such as Opera? Perhaps the developers of Browser Hijack Recover might shed some light on this issue.
