   Review - Microsoft Windows Vista (32-bit)

   Beta 2 (Jun 7, 2006)

   As a beta I expected it to be buggy and it has been. I have had problems with lots of stuff from installing software to video and audio drivers.
   
   Also, ModderXManiac I used msconfig through the Run menu to disable some features like the constant approvals needed to make changes. It seems M$ is really trying to beef up the security even if it is a pain for most of us.
   
   Oh well - for free software I can't complain too much...yet

   Review - DivX Web Player for Windows

   Beta 2 (Jan 5, 2006)

   In the license agreement it says "LIMITED DURATION: The License to this product is of limited duration and shall expire on March 30, 2005. After such date, this product will not be usable and its features will be unavailable to you."
   
   Is this just an out of date section or did they mean 2006?
   
   Guess this part of the license is what may seem to indicate spyware? SOFTWARE INSTALLATION: When the software is installed a notification will be sent to our servers. This notification will be used to track installs compared to downloads of our software and will not be personally identifiable. Components bundled with our software will enable Licensor to track certain marketing offers and to track generalized usage data to assist Licensor in its product development and will not be personally identifiable. Licensor may in the future offer updates and additional components (such as a toolbar) through our version checking/update system.

   Review - Mozilla Firefox for Windows (v2)

   1.1 Alpha 1 RC (May 24, 2005)

   As an FYI - after installing Deer Park, Firefox 1.04 would not open correctly. All of the toolbars, both top and bottom were distorted and left clicking on a toolbar opened an unusable black window instead of a menu.
   
   I had to create a new profile and reload all extensions and themes. Uninstalling Deer Park and reinstalling Firefox did not help.

   As of 04/04/07 - you can now install Live maps 3D in Firefox

5. Comment - Microsoft Fixes Zero-Day Word Flaws

   I just got the latest patches and between Windows XP and Office 2003 there were "only" 19 of them...gee and the software has only been on the market for at least 3 years!

6. Comment - Office 12 Beta 1 Released to Testers

   Unless someone posts the files somewhere thats unauthorized (i.e. torrent sites etc) the only way I know of to get the program is through the beta test. Also, for the testers, you get an email with the key codes for the product. Like all Microsoft betas, you need to apply for them. The site is www.beta.microsoft.com. Due to the high volume of testers downloading, the site may not be available or be very slow.
   
   This site http://www.thehotfix.net/beta.htm has a list of many of the current Microsoft betas and info on accessing the site to apply.
   
   Oh yea....I am at 60% for the Office download and the speed has ranged from 350 to the current 85 KB/sec.

8. Comment - DivX Offers Video Software for Free

   Like some of the others here, I was able to access their site for the free download. So far I haven't received a registration code email. But did find a torrent file with a keygen. Maybe DivX will come through with the codes or extend the offer to avoid bad public relations?
