  1. Review - WinDVD Plus

    7.0 Release 7 (Mar 23, 2006)

What is the difference between WinDVD 7 Release 7 and all of the other releases of WinDVD 7? The company's website doesn't even state that there are different releases of WinDVD 7.

  2. Review - openSUSE

    10.1 Beta 4 (Feb 20, 2006)

Beta 3 of SUSE Linux works great. It's faster than Windows, the composite extensions in KDE 3.5.1 no longer slows my laptop's nVidia GeForce Go5200 graphics at all.

Unfortunately I can't say the same about SUSE Linux Beta 4. This version has taken a huge step backwards from beta to alpha status by switching to a new package manager and breaking everything. This type of an update should have either happened during alpha testing of SUSE Linux 10.1 or it should have waited until the next version of SUSE Linux.

  3. Review - Opera for Windows

    9.0 Build 8212 Technology Preview 2 (Feb 7, 2006)

Firefox security nightmare? I think you have Firefox confused with Internet Explorer 6. Firefox is currently the most secure web browser available. Opera is a good web browser but there are a lot of web sites that don't display properly in Opera.

  4. Review - Mozilla Firefox for Windows (v2)

    1.5.0.1 RC1 (Jan 16, 2006)

Bottom line: The Gecko rendering engine is vastly superior to all other browser rendering engines currently available. Web browsers like IE 6 and earlier can't even come close to the performance of Firefox. Maybe IE 7 will improve on this.

An IE front end cannot improve IE's rendering performance. It doesn't matter if an IE front end adds tabbed browsing and an easier way to use search engines. It's completely useless without a blazing fast rendering engine.

  5. Review - Diskeeper 2009 Professional

    10.0.593.0 (Dec 8, 2005)

The folks at Diskeeper Corporation are a bunch of liars. I tried installing the trial version of Diskeeper 10 Professional Premier on 64-bit Windows XP and got a message stating my operating system wasn't supported. If this is how the trial version works, I most certainly won't be giving Diskeeper Corporation any of my money.

  6. Comment - Microsoft to Offer Pay-As-You-Go PCs

    10.0.593.0 (May 23, 2006 - 2:01 PM)

Two years ago the bank Dell was using did charge 25-30 percent interest even to people with a credit score above 750. Maybe things have changed for the better since then.

  7. Comment - Microsoft to Offer Pay-As-You-Go PCs

    10.0.593.0 (May 23, 2006 - 5:31 AM)

I'm surprised Dell doesn't take people with bad credit considering they charge 25-30 percent interest regardless of your credit score.

  8. Comment - Apple's 5th Avenue Store Opens Friday

    10.0.593.0 (May 20, 2006 - 2:52 AM)

    Check this out:

In the Macbook Pro instruction book on page 106, under "Using Your MacBook Pro", Apple recommends: "Do not leave the bottom of your MacBook Pro in contact with your lap or any surface of your body for extended periods. Prolonged contact with your body could cause discomfort and potentially a burn".

  9. Comment - Apple Countersues Creative

    10.0.593.0 (May 20, 2006 - 2:41 AM)

If memory serves, Microsoft attempted to develop an OS code named Cairo that would have had the same graphics capabilities as Mac OS X long before Apple thought up their OS.

There's a reason Microsoft waited so long to release an OS like Windows Vista. At the time Windows 9x, 2000 and XP were being developed most computers couldn't even support the basic Aero interface in Vista let alone Aero Glass.

Now, 90% of computers in use fully support the basic Aero interface in Vista, while the other 10% support the additional Glass effects as well.

  10. Comment - Image Processing Flaw Found in Firefox

    10.0.593.0 (May 19, 2006 - 1:59 PM)

Every other non Microsoft web browser that has ever been released (including Opera, Netscape and Firefox) is faster at rendering web pages than IE 6. The only fast browser in terms of web page rendering speed that Microsoft has developed is IE 7.
