Just FYI.. as an interesting story:
your Wrong... U.S. Law does apply to people living in Antigua.
the Government of Antigua has signed two International treaties protecting Copyright of movies, audio, books etc. of other countries. Antigua & the U.S. are both members of InterPOL (you always see that "InterPOL Copyright warning on movies quoting "we investigate internation copyright violation.. Sept 8, 1977 Stockholm, Sweden,)"
so here's the Question.. why hasn't the Antigua National Police force working with the U.S. FBI through InterPOL. Raided Slysoft's offices in Antigua and basically arrested everybody and closed down the website?
we see cases like this with Microsoft going after some Pirate Factory in China. even though China national laws may not have been broken, China Police work with FBI to raid factories because of the international agreement China has signed..
the answer...
basically the U.S. govt banned Online Gambling for U.S. Citizens, but made exceptions for state lotteries, horse racing etc., the Antigua Govt got upset filed a dispute with World trade organization (WTO) for $3.4 billion yearly in damages..since they are an online gambling capital after 5yrs they won the case but only for $21 Million yearly... not $3.4 billion they were asking for..
it gets evan more interesting..
given the WTO ruling Antigua has threaten to allow online website to openly sell pirated DVD's music etc and ship to the U.S. Technically U.S. Customs wouldn't be able to sieze the items.. the U.S. has asked for a delay given Obama taking office on Jan 20th.
what exactly is $21 Million yearly?
well at $5 a DVD movie that's 4.2million DVD's shipped to the U.S. of Popular Hollywood movies even before being offically released on DVD and not a darn thing anyone can do about it
Hollywood isn't happy..The MPAA argues $21 Million yearly is the cost of the copyright work profits.. in other words.. that's about 10 music songs, or 2 movies your allowed to pirate..

there is a very simple solution to this whole e-voting thing.. a printed reciept showing who you voted for and a unique record# on that reciept (that matches the one on the screen)that also get's deposited into the ballot box. (the number isn't linked to a specific voter because nobody knows which of the 30 polling PC's you randomly decide to walk up to & vote
for the "initial" voting results which everyone wants literally within 2-3 hours of the polls closing use the electronic tabulation.. obviously the Secretary of state office gives a "formal results" within 30days..
obviously the first few elections you count the paper & electronic tabulation for any errors. say the average error is 1% miscount. then you lockdown that firmware/units to no changes..
if you have an election that shows 60% to person A & 40% on electronic tabulation. the loser could demand a manual paper recount but if the paper results show in 59% to 41% the loser would need to pay the state for all costs of recounting.
voting over the internet
right now major corporations use internet voting for shareholders via a secure website don't see why we can't do the same for our elections

the commerical's are NOT Pointless..
you need to ask yourself why did MSFT release a commerical like this? what are they trying to achieve? is there something your missing? this Ad is NOT targeted to anyone who would read BetaNews. or considers themselves a Geek. your NOT the demographic these are targeted to.
what was the point of Geico's Caveman commericals? they were differn't... people started getting interested in watching them just to see what would happen next. they got such a following that ABC even launched a TV series based on them.I don't know the MS marketing plan, but I'm curious.. what's the next Ad going to be about.?
maybe you'll see them both get into a new Ford Car driving down the road.. that just happens to have Wireless internet, VOIP hands free calling + Navigation software that intelligently re-routes your trip based on traffic congestion and streams Audio from your home based Vista PC direct to your car driving down the road.. (MSFT did sign an agreement with both Ford & Fiat for some type of OS preinstalled to offer wireless type features in cars)
maybe the Ad shows the two sitting down to watch TV at home.. The TV is running a version of Vista, talks to the rest of your Home electronics.. if you think this is a joke.
"Microsoft Corp announced today (06/2007) an agreement with Sichuan Changhong Electric (a major Chinese TV manufacturer) to jointly develop entertainment products that will link the Internet, PC's and TV home entertainment systems"
"I still believe in our vision: a computer on every desk and in every home, all running Microsoft software" Bill Gates Oct 1995 fortune magazine quote.
this vision has expanded to every aspect of your life: your Car, TV, Refrigerator, Cash Machines, traffic lights, you won't be able to do anything without MSFT taking a cut

I agree with Phpdev, I grew up in a world of paying over $100 a month for 128kbps ISDN there is only so much bandwidth avail and I don't think many high school/college kids really understand how expensive it is to run fiber nationwide. digging up roads, enviroment permits etc.. just to give you an idea
for those of you who "want high quality, high speed service with 99.99% uptime" for $60 a month.. good luck.. $60 is nothing.. here are the typical prices telco charge.
T-1 1.544mbps cost $250.-$500 a month
T-3 43.232mbps $4,000.-$16,000 a month
OC3 155mbps $20,000.-$45,000 a month
OC48 2.4Gbps $374,000 -$500,000 a month
obviously this is dedicated -vs- cable which is shared. the solution here is to implement 100mbps or 1Gbps to the home (yahoo japan currently offers). so downloading HDTV content is very fast. along with some type of monthly quota (we all would like it to be higher but probably 20gb-100gb for non business accounts)
then Quality of Service (QOS) my VOIP Calls (especially 911) take priority over your online WOW gaming.. even if that means stalling your game.. me downloading a 60mb file is going to download faster then somebody transfering a 100GB time of day.. 2am in the morning you get better results then during the business day etc. yes you can host a website or VPN to your home. a few thousand hits to your website nobody cares.. if it spikes to over 1 million expect your ISP to start charging you more.
the goal here is to offer a flat monthly fee for 90% of the people to check email, download a few files etc.. I would like to see a 150mbps/5mbps cable service for $20 a month with a 5GB limit another plan for $40 with a 20gb etc. instead of what comcast does now charges for download speed.

how can the EU seriously consider U.S. jails inhumaine compaired to China, cuba Mexico or dozens of other countries?
I guess the logic is that the U.S. Still allows the death penality. even though the death penality isn't being considered in Mckinnon's case, the fact that the U.S. allows it might be enough emotional distress
it's very simple. if the EU continues this type of behavour then the U.S. Should require all EU citizen's (UK Exception) traveling to the U.S. to obtain vistor vista's 30days before travel
EU human rights court is so crazy that they ruled against a UK school that had a student stay 30mins after school for detention for disrupting class against the students wishes.. The EU human rights court stated this was Kidnapping and a violation of the students human rights. if corporal punishment is no longer allowed in UK, now Detention is out as well?
worse the EU court even believes animals have the same rights as human's -article below
His name is Matthew, he is 26 years old, and his supporters hope to take his case to the European Court of Human Rights. But he won't be able to give evidence on his own behalf - since he is a chimpanzee... yes you read this right a chimpanzee. Animal rights activists led by British teacher Paula Stibbe are fighting to have Matthew legally declared a 'person' so she can be appointed as his guardian if the bankrupt animal sanctuary where he lives in Vienna is forced to close.
