  1. Review - TaskSwitchXP

    1.1 Alpha 2 (Jan 22, 2005)

MS already has similar counterparts in their XP Powertoys, which is extremely SLOW!!!~

Users use ALT+TAB for fast application switching with accuracy (just to kno which app you're switching to). Although the one in Powertoys and this beta provides preview so to give you an idea of the app you're about to switch, there are several differences:

    - the one in Powertoys is way too SLOW when rendering previews, although users didn't intend to see the preview (ie: quickly press ALT+TAB and release the key, normally the task switcher wouldn't lag the system and halt the switching, the Powertoys does halt the switching though)
    - there are no options to customize the view. I personally think having previews at the right side instead of the left works best to me.
    - This beta has a smaller footprint.

  2. Review - TaskSwitchXP

    1.1 Alpha 0 (Dec 13, 2004)

Just like other reviews said, this program has very small footprint (320kb) and is itself very small too.

It runs much faster than the TaskSwitcher in Powertoys, which means there is virtually no delay between pressing ALT+TAB and it shows up the task list. It is somewhat a bit, but very bit, slower than the original ALT+TAB handler from XP/2003, but the speed is still resonable (at least if you press ALT+TAB too fast, it'll quit without finish retrieving the thumbnail image of the program, which TaskSwitcher in Powertoys does!!)

It performs excellent and does what it promises to do - I personally think it deserves a 5 rating.

  3. Review - Microsoft Winter Fun Pack

    2004 (Dec 3, 2004)

Another good seasonal theme pack from MS. I personally like this one better than the one released last year.

I seriously doubt if other ppl think twice installing this kindda packs before thinking..~ "It takes whole chunk of resource?", "It does nothing?" If you install it you aren't gonna care, right? For certain ppl who think this pack is as useless as other software MS make, then don't use Windows and don't write reviews for this (cuz you can't install on Linux or MacOS).

And yes, it DOES take quite some resource, with 1GB of RAM I aint gonna care!~

  4. Review - LClock

    1.62b (Oct 2, 2004)

nice, it's okay small (304k) but I just like the clock style I saw in Longhorn release. And I'm happy to see such a small program to do just that.

Nice and neat, it does what it is promised to do, and do a good job. So score = 5

  5. Review - ePrompter

    2.0 SR1 Beta 12 (EPX 1.0.46.0) (Jul 7, 2004)

In terms of functionality, 5 is almost certain for everyone here, except for few fellows who have difficulties running the program.

In terms of graphical UI, it's 2. Although it provides alternative layouts, all those layouts are still not quite "modern"? (what's the proper word for that, hmm...) Get the graphics better and this rock-solid piece of work would be the best (rate of 5).

In terms of ease of use, most of you all are using it everyday and seldom using your Firefox/Safari/IE to login to Yahoo, Hotmail, AltaVista, etc... It shows this software is really an innovation. NICE JOB! So another 5 here.

    Average out it's a 4

  6. Comment - Performance drain: The first public perception test of the Windows 7 era

    2.0 SR1 Beta 12 (EPX 1.0.46.0) (Nov 4, 2009 - 5:04 PM)

I didn't see any main point of this article, but it seems it's saying Win7 is slower than Vista... Yes IE8 is slow but it's just a browser and we have plenty of replacement for that (those that use IE8 as primary can stand their slowness). My perception -> Win7 is much faster than Vista, enough said. Also, alot of people are having good perception of Win7 (unlike Vista -.- which itself isn't a bad OS at all!). Perception doesn't matter as vast majority of people won't even give a try (let alone - perceive) if they hear the product is bad bad bad.

  7. Comment - My father's laptop: A humble machine's simple lesson

    2.0 SR1 Beta 12 (EPX 1.0.46.0) (Sep 25, 2009 - 12:46 PM)

Sorry about your lose. It's really a touching story, and I really like the last sentence.

  8. Comment - Windows 7: Don't upgrade, says FSF, your civil rights are in jeopardy

    2.0 SR1 Beta 12 (EPX 1.0.46.0) (Aug 27, 2009 - 1:09 PM)

Can't they see that Windows-kingdom is quite at risk of cloud-computing? If one day Windows were to disappear, it's quite sad that it's not because of FSF.

IMO, what they're doing is pretty pathetic.

  9. Comment - Mono, the open source .NET counterpart, releases 2.0

    2.0 SR1 Beta 12 (EPX 1.0.46.0) (Oct 6, 2008 - 2:33 PM)

Nice job Mono! Keep it coming~

  10. Comment - Is Windows 7 slimming down to speed up (development)?

    2.0 SR1 Beta 12 (EPX 1.0.46.0) (Sep 24, 2008 - 2:15 AM)

yup, think of all those programs that many vendors would include nowadays - an evaluation version of MS Office, an evaluation version of Norton Security Suite, all other mini programs from vendors like HP/Dell that controls this and that....

Having less pre-installed software is the way to go, and glad that MS is heading there now. I rather be the "I install what I need" rather than "I uninstall what I don't need", since I'll have to install what I need after these uninstallations!
