  1. Review - DivX for Windows

    5.0.2 Updated (Jun 16, 2002)

It's okay. Nothing great actually. I have some problems withthe video codec with flickering and slowdowns in Windows Media Player that I didn't have in 3.11, and the Divx Vidoe Player half locks my pc everytime. It sort of freezes everything, but doesn't. It's weird and takes a couple minutes of hitting keys on my keyboard and clicking the X on the program at the same time before it closes out. It's also very easy to remove Gator ad software. Close any Gator using apps, run the about Gator program from it's program group, click disable Gator software hyperlink from the last tab and then go into C:\Program Files\Common Files\ and delete the GMT and CMEII folders. That's it.

  3. Review - Fortres 101

    4.1 Build 503 (Aug 18, 2001)

actually, at my high school, five years ago, i have found ways around fortres since version 2.5! then 3.0 and 3.5. i have an entire list of hacks and i learned that by hex editing the program in an earlier version, there was a universal program (getting at the files so i could hex edit it alone was quite a task involving some good thinking) and it was incredibly hard then too, because a boot disk was not an option as our administrator used a program that disables the system from booting from ANY floppy other than a master key floppy that had a signture on it that it recognized. that was the biggest b**** to get around. i suggest you mention that to your administrator. i don't recall the name of the program now. in my opinion, i believed 3.5 was the best version. 4.0 just made things more complicated and got a little buggy. that was around the time that they still used a logo of calvin from calvin and hobbes on their manuals and diskettes. those copyrighting bas****s. haha. by toying with fortres back then ieven learned of a disable the ctrl-alt-del function that was built into windows by adding a line to system.ini. i had no idea.

  4. Review - Zero Popup Killer

    1.01 (Aug 12, 2001)

have you even tried this program? this program works similarly to ad muncher which ALSO just installs a dll and cost aroudn the same price. whether or not all it is is a dll, the program works and works better than others i might add which makes it's value more than what he is charging per copy. plus i'm sure he will change the title to please you. if not to shut you up. in comparison to other programs, i've tried them all and still go back to others tryign to get a completely ad free browsing experience. i found using ad muncher, ad subtract pro, and webwasher, all with certain settings selected, you can browse ad/popup free without losing the whole browsing experience. because when i enabled certain features of ad muncher, my webpages would load oddly, frames were distorted in size, menu's wouldn't load, same with ad subtract and webwasher. when i used them all in conjunction, with certain features enabled, it seems to work well. still getting a few bugs out of it. i think it's completely rediculous that i should have to go to so much trouble to opt out of viewing ads. i see them everywhere and my mailbox is floded daily with them even though i try my hardest not to get any it's near impossible in this day and age. what completely amazes me is that we PAY to view these ads. i hope i'm not the only one who believes that things should be the way they were in the late 1800's / early 1900's when advertising company's PAYED US to view ads. i think marketing i a scam and we are all suckers becasue they will have to do what the public says and right now the public says i don't care, do what you want as long as it doesn't interfere with my life. America should wake up and take back the power they've always had.

  5. Review - All To WMA Converter

    0.95 Beta (Jul 31, 2001)

I think the peopel that would use this program have portable digitable media players, thus makign wma a much more substantial decrease in file size while the same audio quality. and converting from mp3 to wma doesn't lose audio quality unless you go to a lower bitrate, which is why going from cd to wma makes more sense. but again, i think only mp3 player people would use this as wma in an mp3 player makes more sense because you can cram more songs in.

  6. Comment - PC Makers in Middle of Desktop Bounty Hunt

    0.95 Beta (Jul 31, 2001 - 4:01 PM)

I think government involvement in this is completely ludicrous. I don't understand why the Senator thinks AOL is one of the "little guys" he is fighting for. This entire ordeal is as rediculous as when parents formed organizations to stop Pokemon from making children addicted to it and it's merchandise. All the parents in the group mispronounced Pokemon as Pokeman. It's astonishing that they were fighting for soemthing they culdn't even pronounce. Tell me i'm not the only person who saw that on the news?

  7. Comment - Microsoft Issues First Post-RC1 XP Build

    0.95 Beta (Jul 26, 2001 - 11:24 AM)

you obviously don't know how to use the system well enough or you would easily be able to get back to the old win2k gui by going into system properties and turn off visual enhancements. there are other things you could do. i didn't see you talk about any real issues like stability and compatibility, just how you can't get the gui to look like the old win2k. also, you are doing somethign wrong in setup if you had problems converting your partitions as i have installed this on at least 15 pc's to testing at our location and each scenario i ran went without a hitch.

"As a serios user it is a no-go for me, at least the way it looks and feels right now."
a serious user wouldn't say that. and the installation guides are simplistic because it doesn't take a genious to install xp.

"May be redesign of text and graphics is in order, but I won't bet on that either... "
again with graphics. this leads me to believe all your issues are with you hate for the desgins microsoft has chosen for xp.

as far as desgins went, they were goign to use a flat interface as in the microsoft professional theme but decided to kick it the way they do any of their other good ideas. why? because of customer feedback. thats why they made most of the changes they made to xp that dealt with the gui. i for one am glad that the win9x kernel is dying and they found a decent way to "force" everyone to use the nt kernel which is in fact a much better and more stable kernel. getting programs to run that way on it are programmer issues that will have to be fixed before the product goes gold. once and awhile, a new beta will sacrifice certain features or compatibility "temporarily" to get another piece of the os to work properly. but later releases should also fix the previous problems that had not existed before the build the problem showed up in. xp will be more stable than win2k was as well as attract more users by offering more features. i am very pleased whith the work they've done so far. microsoft has more developers putting in more hours on the production of xp than any os they have done previously.

as far as build 2509 goes, that is an internal microsoft build not meant for public beta testers. how or why you are using it is beyond me as 2520 is the first public interim build since rc1. if you feel it doesn't meet your needs it's because that build wasn't meant to be used by you.
i completely agree with the wow factor and ui standards comments.

    my 2 cents.

  8. Comment - The Truth About Windows Activation

    0.95 Beta (May 18, 2001 - 11:13 AM)

everything he says is true and i'm just upset more people don't come to the same realization. we are customers and we can demand whatever we like, wether a company listens to us or not is their decision. if you don't like it, don't use it. oh windows crashes so often, blah blah blah. use linux or beos or another os that you feel more comfortable with. i just bought myst 3, but it doesn't run properly on my pc. it has many problems in it's main executable according to presto. and i'll have to wait awhile till it's out. what am i going to do? nothing. move on and deal with it. you don't like the activation, well no one is forcing you to upgrade.

  9. Comment - More Details on Whistler 2410

    0.95 Beta (Jan 8, 2001 - 10:54 PM)

the only security features i've noticed are if you go into network connections and right click your internet connection, click the advanced tab and check secure my internet connection. other than that. i noticed this build boots faster but runs slower once in windows? beta 1 ran great. i only wish the compatibility mode emulation was more advanced. for example, when trying to run a windows 95 program (using windows 95 compatibility mode for that program alone) that accesses the cd-rom drive, it doesn't know how to in whistler. i have gotten some programs that should have no reason not to run on whistler, run on whistler. like, they would not do anything when you double clicked the executable (as if you hadn't at all). at least with the emulation enabled, the programs start and give some error. to see what i mean, http://boards.psxemu.com...p;TID=357&SID=16385

  10. Comment - New Whistler Build Sent Out

    0.95 Beta (Jan 7, 2001 - 3:38 PM)

you know, it's already cracked. i just it posted online. and from the looks of it, the crack is rediculously simple. this also works on office10 beta which uses the same type of security
