Every MS OS since NT came out can get by without security software. This is specially true for XP (first MS OS to include a packet filter)
Do you know about standard user accounts, software restriction policies, NTFS access permissions, ACLs, etc?
Obviously, you don't.
The security ignorance and fanboism of the Mac people make them a dream target for crimeware:

With some many news about Web 2.0, I thought that you followed closely IT/security blogs. Guess I was wrong.

Install ImgBurn (http://www.imgburn.com/) and Burrrn (http://www.burrrn.net/?page_id=4) and drop Nero/Roxio. You'll have 99.9 % of the features (ImgBurn's developer is working on adding support for multi-session disks) with a tiny disk footprint and superb reliability.

LOL, a tiny Geode processor will need to run a real-time AV. Also, imagine distributing daily updates over the mesh network.
ROFL.
Pretending to run Windows in whatever form in the OLPC is absurd at best.
