Alpha Build #1019 (Jul 1, 2002)
definately about time... although they did take out a few key config options i think. but it does msgs and file xfers so yay. although, it still takes up more mem than my miranda icq which has the msn plug loaded as well.

you know, i used trillian too for a while. until i got tired of the incompatibilities w/ other icq and licq clients that my friends used, as well as many annoying file xfer bugs. then i thought, whatever happened to miranda icq? so i checked it out once again. it actually works really well and has come a long way. it has been stable for me and can be configured to be just your userlist and 2 buttons (very compact look). and it has a plugin for msn now too :) i only use icq and msn networks so if thats all you use, check it out. it's even skinnable but the current skins kinda suck. and for bloat, it's only a 350k download. everything is a plugin so you can add just the fluff you want, and not everything under the sun. the base program is pretty much just the im w/ file transfer. it allows alot of control over the look too. other than that , you can add plug's for msn, advanced history, more icons, diff style msg'ing windows etc.
msn/xp messenger gets 3 stars, i like the features but hate not being able to control when it runs and that it has ad's.

it's all good. you linux only users out ther need to remember that linux isn't the only *nix os out there. some of the other vm solutions i hear spoken of from time to time (win4lin) will only run on linux. i am a freebsd user so i can only use applications that i can compile for my os or that will run under linux emu. win4lin requires the linux kernel so that app ain't gonna be happin'n for me soon. i have a dual celeron 366@550 w/ 512mb ram. i would like vmware to be faster but i would like alot of things to be faster. programs like this are great for the support crowd so we don't have to have 3 or more computers at our desk to answer other people's questions.

Most of Trillian works well. I used it long ago just as file x'fers were getting implimented. Even now and with the pro version file x'fers are still weird. Within the same office, sending a file to different users on the actual ICQ client get varied results. Some are fast, some are modem speeds, some don't happen at all. Receiving files isn't much better, however if I use ICQ, it always works. I prefer to have my files saved in a folder based on the senders username (like ICQ has always been). Trillian has this feature but rarely does it work. It still makes the folder based on the ICQ number instead.
Also, when the bug stopping Trillian from sending messages to ICQlite clients appeared a short time ago, the Trillian people were surely taking their own sweet time in fixing it. This is understandable for freeware apps when things get broke. This is bad for people that pay for it.
Memory usage isn't bad. But it doesn't hold a candle to Miranda for modularity. It's nice to have a single client that can do all IM protocols, but the user should be able to remove the resources it doesn't need. Miranda is truly custom tailored.

maybe i am missing something here. why does the burden of relaying a new found exploit in application "A" fall on an OS fan site? sure, it should be posted everywhere but dude, he just posted a snipit of info he found on a site about "the topic" and then you go off on what you think the mentioned sites responsibilities are!? if anyone here is opening a can of worms its you wendor. on top of that, you refer to this problem and lend to the idea as if it were a freebsd/apache combo bomb. where do you get your thinking?!? the problem is not limited to freebsd, it effects any one using the version listed! ref:
http://httpd.apache.org/...y_bulletin_20020620.txt
this is/was an apache issue, don't drag freebsd into it without including every other os as well. again, fewt was just posting some info he found on the update that just happened to be on that bsd site. you had to go make it a whole different issue.
