  1. Review - Comodo BackUp

    1.0.4.337 (Jun 2, 2008)

This is pretty much as good as it gets with free backup software. If you hate Windows' NTBACKUP, then definitely try this.

  2. Review - HyperSnap-DX

    6.21.01 (Jul 18, 2007)

I use this capture tool every day at work. It is one of the few tray apps that I actually approve. One of the best things about this program is the Save menu. It has everything but the kitchen sink when you Save As, and it remembers configuration. Cropping could be a little easier, but this application has increased my productivity 68.542%!

  3. Review - K-Lite Mega Codec Pack

    1.63 (Jan 3, 2007)

K-Lite/MPC trumps the wizards at Microsoft Media. Using the middle mouse scroll to adjust the volume, what a coup!

    15 Stars out of 15.

  4. Review - Winamp Standard

    2.76 (Aug 29, 2001)

This program is a shining example for Windows applications. It's constantly updated and painstakingly tweaked to interact with Windows in the most conservative ways. One of the best programs of all time.

  5. Review - Microsoft Internet Explorer for Windows XP

    6.0.2600.0 Final (Aug 29, 2001)

Well great, another version of Internet Explorer that's going to be patched from here to Seattle. I would suggest keeping IE 5.5, unless you actually would trust any version of Internet Explorer with your credit card numbers.

Still, Netscape dominates in flawless security and email. Give it a try, even if you are a Microsoft-lover.

  6. Comment - AOL, if you can believe it, breaks traffic records

    Brilliantly written!

  7. Comment - The Windows name: Is there special significance to '7?'

    6.0.2600.0 Final (Oct 15, 2008 - 4:19 PM)

Other software companies have done this before (giving something a number different than internal version number), but what it all boils down to is... nothing. It all doesn't matter--it's just a version number.

They could have called Windows Vista "XP 2.0", it would still be a new version. They might as well have called it v. 6.12.0G. Don't let it bug you.

  8. Comment - Making movies in the cloud: Windows Live Movie Maker

    6.0.2600.0 Final (Sep 18, 2008 - 10:27 AM)

I heard Microsoft abhors songs about dead lead singers from the seventies...

  9. Comment - Blizzard parent to acquire Activision, build new gaming empire

    6.0.2600.0 Final (Dec 4, 2007 - 8:56 AM)

I am so happy I cancelled my WoW account days before this announcement. Expect more red tape and less quality from both parties involved.

  10. Comment - XP SP3 speed lead over Vista SP1 narrows under similar workloads

    6.0.2600.0 Final (Nov 28, 2007 - 8:33 AM)

Great analogy! You forgot to include seat warmers, though.
