  1. Review - Google Chrome for Windows

    4.0.223.16 Beta (Nov 7, 2009)

Chrome bug fix 355 (http://code.google.com/p...um/issues/detail?id=355) has finally been incorporated in version 4.0.237.0, hoverable bookmark menus! This brings us to a 4 star browser. The final star will come from two things: finalization and widespread adoption of chrome extensions, and more options for users in terms of customization of theme and under the hood changes. The performance of the browser in terms of overall rendering speed (from the moment you attempt to access a web page to the time it finishes displaying) is unparalleled (see BetaNews' comprehensive test).

  2. Review - UltimateZip

    5.0 (Jul 31, 2009)

The interface is extremely similar to WinZip (eerily close in fact), but the price is much more reasonable. Support for all the standards, like ZIP, RAR, ACE, CAB, JAR, LHA, LZH, 7Z and more. Unfortunately, the a comment by a previous poster appears to no longer be true, this software is not free for personal use. (They do have a "Trial Pay" option though, just like WinZip.)

  3. Review - WinSSHD

    5.05 (Apr 11, 2009)

Amazing! The shear number of options available dwarfs every other free offering I have tried (freeSSHd, Core FTP, MobaSSH, Sysax). It's important to note the word "free", because when installing you can choose to install under a Personal licence, which is free and HARDLY crippled compared to their standard product. (oh, and remember to configure your firewall correctly!)

  4. Review - UltraISO

    9.3.3.2685 (Feb 11, 2009)

A terrific application. It supports all of the CD/DVD image formats I could desire and has plenty of customization options (including ability to enable/disable shell integration). The interface is clean and usable (I can't stand how many apps lead you through wizards with enormous colorful buttons). The only downside is the cost. I would like to see this as freeware.

PE stands for Personal Edition I think, but yes UltraISO PE is synonymous with buying UltraISO.

  5. Review - PowerDVD

    8.2217aD (Feb 11, 2009)

Ok, madmike, please inform us of these other options which are capable of playing back Blu-ray and HD DVD content while passing most of the processing requirements to the GPU? WinDVD... but that also costs bundle of money. Nope, can't says MPC Home Cinema as its DXVA technology is limited to h264. If you're playing back Blu-ray and HD DVD content, this is still your best option. For all other video formats, there are alternatives: MPC HC, ZoomPlayer, GOM Player, Windows Media Player, just to name a few. It does what it is supposed to do, but yes the footprint is a bit large and the advanced customization options meager.

FYI, to re-enable HD DVD playback in PowerDVD 8, visit: http://pdvd8hddvd.googlepages.com

  6. Comment - Office 2007 SP2 is released, can indeed save ODF by default

    8.2217aD (May 5, 2009 - 2:14 AM)

ODF compliance in Office 2007 SP2 is poor, see here:
