  1. Review - Passcape Win CD Keys

    2.4.4.163 (Aug 4, 2008)

Can't fathom paying $22 for keyfinder. Several free versions out there and no 5-character limits for a "shareware" version. No thanks.

  2. Review - nVIDIA ForceWare Drivers for Windows 2000/XP (32-bit)

    93.71 Official (Nov 2, 2006)

Drivers pulled from nVidia's FTP site (at least for Media Center). Latest is now 91.47. For "regular" Windows, the latest FTP folder is 96.85. Download link is on the nVidia home page, but you get the "Page cannot be displayed" error when you accept the license agreement.

  3. Review - Acoustica CD/DVD Label Maker

    1.29 (Feb 28, 2003)

Really good program that finally fixed the no-launching Hyperlinks from version 1.24. However, they took away the small-hole print option. Can't figure out why, but it's a useful proggie otherwise.

  4. Review - Microsoft Internet Explorer for Windows XP

    6.0 SP1 (Sep 9, 2002)

For those using a Windows 2000 or XP system but want to download the 98 and ME files as well (a 50 MB download), first save the ie6setup.exe to your hard drive. Then, open a command prompt in 2000/XP and type the following:

    c:\ie6setup.exe /c:"ie6wzd.exe /d:1 /s:""#E"

Just an FYI. I did it because I have a 98 and a 2K system. Works great.

  5. Review - AOL Instant Messenger for Windows

    5.0.2892 Beta (Aug 4, 2002)

Be careful if you install this "update" and use your QuickLaunch. It adds another AIM icon to the QuickLaunch and refuses to let you remove the old one. I tried to delete the old one and it tells me "Cannot delete file: Cannot read from the source file or disk." I guess that means AO Hell is going to add a new icon to my QuickLaunch with every upgrade, so maybe by the time AIM 5.0 is final, I'll have 20 or 30 at the bottom of my screen. AOL Time Warner---cooking the books and your computer.

  6. Comment - Microsoft on Win7 Beta: 'The download experience was not ideal'

    5.0.2892 Beta (Jan 12, 2009 - 2:03 PM)

Downloaded it easily via Technet. Only two small issues with compatibility. Skype says it's incompatible but still starts, but AOL Instant Messenger crashes every time it tries to start. Otherwise, pretty smooth install.

  7. Comment - It's Time: Windows Vista Goes Gold

    5.0.2892 Beta (Nov 8, 2006 - 8:30 PM)

If Microsoft isn't quick enough for you, go to www.autopatcher.com. They update every month and include the PowerToys, .NET Framework, Java 2 SE, and other goodies in one package.

  8. Comment - WinHEC 2006 Brings New Office, Vista

    5.0.2892 Beta (May 24, 2006 - 2:00 PM)

    ArcHammer,

So am I not able to activate. Stupid program keeps telling me it can't find my Internet connection. Only 46 more times to open it, I guess. Way to go, Microshaft.

  9. Comment - RealNetworks Updates RealOne Player

    5.0.2892 Beta (Aug 23, 2002 - 7:01 PM)

This beta (or one of its add-ons) caused my computer to crash. I'm running XP Home, and the first RealOne version worked fine. Silly me, I decided to update to this beta and I now get an irreversible BSOD with a Stop 0x0000007e error. Uninstalling this garbage doesn't help, but I know this software caused the problem because my computer worked fine until I did install it. Whether it's a flaw in the software or a conflict with an already-installed device, it doesn't matter...I have to reformat. Goodbye Real. Even worse than Microshaft.

  10. Comment - RealPlayer 8 Beta Released

    5.0.2892 Beta (May 22, 2000 - 8:14 PM)

For users of the Plus versions of RealPlayer and RealJukebox, don't rush to upgrade.

I did, and now the music that I recorded to my computer from RealJukebox 1.0 plays garbled and horrible noise in Jukebox 2.0 beta. I've written Real Networks about my problem, but no answer yet.
