Just to bring you up to speed: We are in the year 2006 and Microsoft does indeed hold a monopoly on Operating Systems.
That is a fact. Don't try to fool yourself or anyone else.
Whether they lose .2 percent in one fiscal year does not overshadow Microsoft's dominance. Apple is close to making a move, but Microsoft still holds a commanding market share lead in the OS and software market.
It's not that people don't use Max, Linux or BSD. But until they find a way to bring business, gaming and the massive third party support that Microsoft garners from other developers, it's difficult to put together a strong case for what is nearly a requirement for consumers to have these days.

Vista is 3 years too late.
If it came out when scheduled, and by all accords; should have been if not for the gigantic blunders along the way, Apple would not be in the apparent David vs. Goliath position they are in now. Microsoft then would have all but won the OS market. Apple has an opening to make a move and gain support for their consistent OS that has been retooled for 6 years.
Come to think of it, this may well be a good thing for consumers: If MS didn't have competition, there wouldn't be competitive instinct that drives innovation. Sitting on your laurels and waiting for others to catch up will do that to most, however ;)

What I find more interesting and appealing is Xbox360 already has a good collection of games already out, as well as a number of second generation nexgen games coming out while PS3 will all be first-gen games. That and still no significant 'I must have that!' feature for the PS3 compared to 360. Face facts and look at it logically: unless Sony pulls something out of their magical sleeves, Microsoft's marketing, price point and timing is much more polished than the original Xbox; which as bulky as it is stilll grabbed a good chunk of market share for their first attempt in the gaming industry.
Also don't leave out the Wii. It's going to attract casual gamers with it's nostalgia of playing to many games from Sega, it's much more affordable price, it's fit and finish of every game they release and the head above heels classic Nintendo gameplay.
However it plays out will be worth it since game development and the way things are done has competition which in theory is beneficial to the consumer.

I think the word 'Vista' is a trigger point for him to get angry.
Let's change Vista, to 'Burger' now and cool down this snarly upturn.

It still is offered: "Microsoft says it will make the feature available through a downloadable add-on."
Adibe is treading on thin ice with this one, but I don't recall Microsoft ever backing down from something that they want to push (Metro) all that often either...Sure they did for Windows XP N, but that was a strategic decision; knowing that the market vendors wouldn't want it. Seems like MS is finally learning how to play the game! It may be safer for them to be a bit less obvious for next time though...
