  1. Comment - Cox Joins Comcast in Bumping Cable Speeds

    (Jun 15, 2007 - 5:07 PM)

Yeah they are doubling speeds and charging more for it. I have 5 now and when I was complaining that my Internet was out they asked if I wanted to bump it up to 10 for an additional 10 per month. I nearly fell down laughing. The line was out yet they wanted me to pay more for additional bandwidth.

By the way, I am still down. It has been a week and they cannot get their act together. Four different technicians on four different days and it still wont work. Thank god my neighbor has his wireless open.

  2. Comment - Vonage Gets 911 Services from Verizon

    (May 5, 2005 - 1:53 AM)

I had a very different experience with this. What Vonage does is it programs in a local pocile or fire station based on the address that you put into the 911 section. In my case it was the main line to my city police station.

Problem is, the main line is not 911 and not meant for emergencies. The police station cannot transfer you to 911 and they tell you that you need to call 911 instead. But, if all you have is your Vonage phone then you did call 911, they just do not have it routed to a number that can help in an emergency.

After looking into this more on the Vonage site it turns out the problem is that the 911 telephone service is run by whatever local phone company you have. So the only way to get true 911 service is if the local phone company works out a deal with Vonage to allow them access to their 911 service. Verizon is the first to do so, and once this goes into effect and you dial 911 it will go to the same 911 that people with traditional phones go.
