  1. Review - Microsoft Windows 7 32-bit

    Beta (Jan 9, 2009)

I have x64 currently running a virtual machine (downloaded from neowin.net).

So far it has been very responsive and stable, sure there a few kinks here and there, but that may be due to the virtual environment, nothing too alarming in any case.

Finally, Recorded T.V. and Video links available for the start menu. (hooray!)

Hope to try this on my real hardware, cd-key pending of course. From my perspective Windows 7 is coming along extremely well and can't wait for the final release. And as much as I hate to say it, it whips Vista's behind and it's only beta. :D

  2. Review - Kaspersky Internet Security 2010

    8.0.0.451 RC2 (Jul 28, 2008)

The North American page, kaspersky.com does not offer the beta version or the final version of 2009 for that matter. Although, it has been released in other parts of the world. According to the support forums, this a marketing decision.

Anyway, as I said below, this is a very nice security package.

  3. Review - Kaspersky Internet Security 2010

    8.0.0.445 Beta (Jul 27, 2008)

Surprised. Having shyed away from security suites, I thought I would give Kaspersky Internet Security a try. I find to have a nice interface that balances between easy advanced settings. What impresses me so far is the customization and plethora of security tools inside this program. I look forward to purchasing when the trail runs out.

  4. Review - TuneUp Utilities 2010

    7.0.8002 (Mar 1, 2008)

I think of this program as what Norton Utilities should have become. A light weight all-in-one package, with customizations for the user interface thrown in. The included TuneUp Styler has a lot to offer, making that part of the program worth the price alone.

In Windows Vista, I found it to work just fine, making it easier to delete old Windows update backups, thumbnail cache, check disk fragments, and so on. The 1-Click Maintenance is handy too, which can be scheduled to run whenever you specify.

This program even has it's own built-in uninstaller, displaying the size on the disk, plus the date a program was installed, with an option to delete an already removed program from the uninstall list.

I realize there are free applications, very good ones at that, you can use. However, for the convenience of having a ton of utilities in one package, makes this a nice addition to any Windows install.

  5. Review - UltraISO

    8.6.5.2140 (Nov 2, 2007)

I use this for manipulating and trying out data--never really considered it as an CD/DVD writing tool. Nlite for example, if you forget to add something to a custom install disc, UltraISO lets you add files and/or folders to the ISO file. Plus you can shrink images down with it's built in compression. Very useful tool and free updates.

  6. Comment - Windows 7, Windows Server 2008 R2 betas go live

    8.6.5.2140 (Jan 9, 2009 - 7:49 PM)

Thanks for the links, much appreciated. I was able to get a x64 ISO from neowin, but I'm using the links you provided to grab the 32-bit as well. Thanks again and yes a very nice download speed :)

  7. Comment - Vista's image problem personified

A good article on Vista regarding the 'FUD' spread around.

It shares much the same sentiments that I have.

  8. Comment - Judge affirms takedown notice recipients' right to sue

    8.6.5.2140 (Aug 21, 2008 - 7:46 PM)

Given that if this take down notice was not observed that UMG would have sought damages from Lenz, then by your logic such compensation would be utterly asinine. Lets get realistic here, this was nothing about lenz, she had her name dragged through the courts purely because Publishers/Copyright owners will not come to an agreement with Youtube about advertising royalties.

Hopefully a few more rulings like this will finally force the publishers to step away from such pointless legal actions and actually move into the 21st Century where these things are settled in share deals and revenue.

  9. Comment - Judge affirms takedown notice recipients' right to sue

    8.6.5.2140 (Aug 21, 2008 - 5:56 PM)

What a sick society we live in. This is like reading something from a science fiction book. While I'm pleased to see the judge make a sensible decision, it's sick in the way how far this case had come.

What did Universal expect to accomplish? They target a mother and her son for what? A 26 second clip? Sorry, but the DMCA is riddled with immoral flaws and should be taken out along with the wig-wearing loonies it came with. This is utterly disgusting!

  10. Comment - Enraged Canadian subscribers sue wireless providers over SMS fees

    8.6.5.2140 (Aug 5, 2008 - 10:56 PM)

This could be a real problem for small business. For example, independent couriers that rely on cellphone technology. It's tough enough with gas prices, add this to their operating expenses may break the bank. They do receive a lot of spam messages on a daily bases.

Unless there are exemptions for business, I can see this getting ugly.
