  1. Review - Microsoft Windows 7 Upgrade Advisor

    1.0 Beta (May 10, 2009)

The tool is OK, but does it REALLY need to install itself? They could have created a portable application since it is used only ONE time by 99.9 of the users and uninstalled in about a minute after its first (and last) use...

before criticizing an application, make sure you understand how it works... You won't look as a complete noob then...

3.3.1 is not released yet, the download here is still 3.3.0 and it is the same on the website.

nice software, I use it without troubles since version 3

  4. Review - NCD Mac Designer

    0.2.8.0 (Apr 18, 2009)

Can a software be less useful than this??? I mean seriously! A software to create a Mac configuration??? And take it to the store?? Isn't it better to come to the store and order the needed configuration right there? With the help of the store's staff?

    Duh...

Pretty lame interface. If you have Adobe Flash, I recommend to stick with it. Koolmoves will not bring you new possibilities...

  6. Comment - OLPC hopes Windows is its sales savior

    7.0.4 (May 19, 2008 - 5:08 PM)

The reason why some countries are more willing to buy XO laptops with Windows instead of Sugar is IMO quite simple: The UI.
And the reason is not because Microsoft's operating system is better than Linux, it is just because it is more traditional. Sugar's UI is way too different from the traditional windows/folders/files desktop. A child that gets used to Sugar's UI will have to learn using traditional systems from the beginning and some coutries see that as counterproductive.
If XO laptops were shipped with Linux and some kind of light Gnome or KDE window manager it would probably be more interesting to potential buyers (countries).
Microsoft sees that just as an oportunity to expand its product to the develloping countries.

  7. Comment - French police bid adieu to Microsoft software

    7.0.4 (Feb 1, 2008 - 6:39 PM)

True, most of office users don't need all the tons of features of MS office. We for example use OpenOffice at work for about 3 years now (we switched from MS Office) and no one actually feels a difference, it's as flawless as before.
Actually I am personally really happy about the french gendarmerie move to Ubuntu, it is a very clever step because:
    a) software upgrade costs are gone (not only the operating system is free, office software is free too now)
    b) hardware upgrades are reduced (next switch to a MS operating system like Vista would have trigered tons and tons of hardware upgrades)
    c) they will probably switch from proprietary office file format to ODF, like lots of other european institutions.

    Adobe:
Portable devices are becoming more and more popular and web-based software (like online office suites, online file storage etc...) begin to replace traditional stand-alone programs. How will your graphic software evolve in the near future? Will we soon see a web-based Creative Suite?

  9. Comment - Out of options, Opera files EU antitrust claim against Microsoft

    7.0.4 (Dec 14, 2007 - 3:04 PM)

IE7 cannot offer the speed of the Opera engine, nor its rendering quality and security.
IE7 has no Full SVG support, no CSS3 (that's already supported in Opera 9.50 Beta). It even can't handle the full CSS2.1 specification. And it has speed problems with javascript.

So NO, IE7 is a bad choice.
