  1. Review - Find and Run Robot

    2.00.144 Beta (Oct 24, 2007)

I try to avoid posting here because i don't think this is meant to be a discussion forum, but i need to reply and don't know any other way to contact you.

Quick point 1, i consider zaine ridling a good friend, but i don't have any say over what he posts here or anywhere and his opinions are his own.

Quick point 2, i personally respect that you don't like the approach we have taken. I've written up a long article about the decisions and philosophy of the site and it's on our site for anyone who is curious or wants to learn more.

Quick point 3, i don't remember any email from you. i don't send out any license keys that last for a year, i don't think i know how, unless something went wrong. the normal way of getting a free key is to sign up at our forum and get sent a 6 month key after which you can come back and get another and then a lifetime key.

if someone emails me and says they have considered it but decided they will not be donating, or if they email after 1 year of signing up, i send them a lifetime key for all of our programs. my email is mouser@donationcoder.com, i'd appreciate it if you contact me and at least let me figure out what you are talking about when you say you emailed and got a 1yr key.

ps. FileForum please make a way for authors to respond to posts here without having to rate our own software which feels wrong.

  2. Review - Screenshot Captor

    2.30.02 (Feb 8, 2007)

Just to clarify: DonationCoder.com is committed to keeping our software available for free, while still trying to find a way to encourage donations so that we can work full time on our software.

Our larger programs (like Screenshot Captor) require you to download a free license key after signing up at our forum. You will get "nagged" a total of 2 times in the next year, after which you are given a non-expiring permanent license key.

We've tried hard to balance our desire to keep our software free and minimize any inconvenience. We know that some people get mad at any hint of a request to donate. We would not make a program that kept nagging you to purchase it - I would consider such software definitely not freeware. But in our case we are talking about requiring you to sign up to download a license key and being "nagged" twice in a twelve month period to consider making a donation. For those who find this unacceptable you can email us for a non-expiring license key (mouser@donationcoder.com). We are trying hard to be good internet citizens and find a way to survive while keeping our software free.

  3. Review - Find and Run Robot

    1.10.04 Beta (Sep 23, 2006)

it's true that farr doesn't build a complete cache of your hard drive. however, what it does do is cache every program you actually ever launch with it, so that they come up instantly in all future searches (and can be set to have a higher score).

the result is that the first time you find a new program it can take a few seconds (if windows doesn't have the start menu or other directories in it's internal cache), future searches for that program will be instantaneous.

[having said that, a more comprehensive chacheing system may be added in the future]

  4. Review - URL Snooper

    2.10.06 Beta (Jul 13, 2006)

    danilloOc,

there is surely a false alarm but we will check it out.

all of the programs on donationcoder.com come with a *zip-compatible* installer, which means that instead of running the installer you can unpack it manually using any zip compatible program, and then you can check out the individual files and see what avast or any other virus scanner says about each.

please feel free to visit the url snooper forum here:

we're happy to help look into all such issues.

  5. Review - Screenshot Captor

    2.18.03 Beta (Jul 7, 2006)

every one of our main apps has a complete dated change log in the help file AND on the programs web page which you can view online :)

    EDIT:

i see now you are talking about a BETANEWS changelog (changelog listed here on this page), which some programs have and this latest release does not have. you were complaining that this page and this update on betanews doesnt have such a change log.

so here is something interesting you probably don't know. there seem to be 2 ways updates get posted on betanews.

one way is the author can submit a new release with an optional changelog.

i *always* specify such a changelog. in fact i have written on our site that the betanews changelogs are one of the best things about betanews.

what you probably don't know is that sometimes betanews automatically picks up new release and adds them without author intervention. this can be quite strange. in this case no version info is displayed. this isn't something an author has control over. it's just a bit of a mystery..

my general approach is to not post too often about minor releases. so if you see a really minor update on betanews without a changelog, it's not an update i've posted.
