  1. Comment - Nokia Predicts Death of Music Industry

    (Mar 22, 2006 - 2:41 AM)

EdenAdore You made some interesting comments about your RAZR phone. You said you have issues with response times etc with your RAZR.
Recent firmware updates and indeed modified firmware has "fixed" some of these features. A good source of information to modify your Motorola phone can be found here : http://www.planetmotox.net/
I have a "Music Handset" with a 2mp camera. A motorola V3x with a 512mb transflash from 3 Mobile in Aust. The phone is fantastic now but wasn't allways that way. Thanks to 3 some of the features of the phone are crippled including bluetooth implimentation.
Pitiful battery life, delays in response times locked menu items are just a few of the issues that have cropped up. Fortunately I have updated and modified the firmware which has overcome all these issues ( Something that you shouldn't have to do ).
I listen to music, store documents, surf the web ( no not wap ) check my emails make calls take happy snaps ( I don't refer to snaps taken by camera phones as photos ) can record 30 minute videos and also watch full length converted dvd's.
Companies like Motorola should watch out when Apple brings out their own mobiles. Ease of use, stability and funky design should have been something that companies like Moto should have got their head around years ago.
Isn't amazing that people in the USA have such issues with their mobile networks. Come live in Australia, our network is light years ahead of yours, then again so are many countries. The USA wants to dominate the world and spread their supposed "freedoms" to the rest of the world yet they can't even get a mobile network phone network to work properly.

  2. Comment - Motorola: WMA Music Phones This Year

    (Feb 14, 2006 - 4:23 AM)

errrr actually Moto phones are allready able to play WMA files. Least my v3x does anyway. Something that bothers me is that while over the air music sounds good it will just be a case of more revenue raising for the telcos

Ladylust you say "what about a better signal". I live in Australia and we don't have a problem with phone signals, even while driving across australia you hit a rural town and your signal is back to normal. Are you in the US perhaps ?

Mp3 the standard ? At least Moto are looking at giving users options as to what format they are able to use, I for one think that is a good thing.
Apple ipods are hugely over rated in my opinion. When they can take 2mp photos, record unlimited video, make phone calls, send emails, surf the net and play copies of full length dvd's as my v3x does then maybe I'd consider getting one. ( not to mention being able to carry a spare battery )

Someone also mentions wifi ? Why do you need that ? Just use a 3g network and it won't matter. Hook your phone straight up to your laptop or just surf the net and send emails straight from your phone. I am sure voip on a mobile will not be that far away, at least here in Aust.

Windows Vista - A new view on your world.

or you could throw in a plug for the xbox 360 while your at it....

Windows vista - Take in all 360

Now what Microsoft should really be doing if the want some new slogan and are as I believe, doing this because they are too cheap to pay for some middle aged marketing gurus new BMW M5 or Hummer is to get the Beta News readers a chance to submit a Tune for their advertising campaign. Something like a Techno or Rap version of the windows startup sound ( Sure to annoy the crap out of every tv viewer and radio listener )

As an incentive they could supply a few xbox 360's to get people really inventive. Stuff paying for marketing just get some bored lifeless computer nerds to do the work for them.

Hell they could even afford to send more software companies to the wall with unfair and illegal practices and still have change left over for more litigation.

  4. Comment - iTunes Outsells Brick and Mortar Stores

    (Nov 24, 2005 - 9:20 AM)

I first used iTunes on my PC a few months ago and only because I converted my old Motorola e398 to use the iTunes app. Firstly it was a hacked version that only allowed 25 songs (Now 100 using Rokr MP).
After playing with iTunes for all of 5 minutes I am now a convert. I can now use my "iTunes" phone much the same as a iPod, watch full converted dvd's take photos and even record video, store documents, keep pictures of my family, read the news send emails, sit down at the beach drinking beer while listening to the tunes from the phones speakers and even make phone calls. ( With the added bonus I can just switch batteries on the go )
As soon as the Razr comes out with iTunes and expandable memory here in OZ I will be the first in line at my local phone shop. The way I see it and many will dismiss the Rokr as a misguided effort by both Apple and Motorola. But as soon as it allows people to download tunes direct to their mobile from the iTunes store Apple and Motorola will be on a winner. I am sure there will be literally millions of people that will pay twice as much for that convenience. ( Well they pay that now for ringtones you can create from programs such as Audacity )
I can now understand why the success of the iPod has translated to other Mac hardware. Good on em I say.I guess the point I am trying to make is that it makes it easier for people to have access with their music on the go. That has to be good for the artists who are no longer beingr ripped off by their labels but also people who download tunes illegaly. Good on em.
Oh as for MP3's sounding as good as a cd. I think not. In a portable device or even a top of the line car stereo they will NEVER sound as good as a cd on a TRUE hifi. By that I do not mean your average sony etc. Yes you CAN notice the difference, it all depends on the equipment you use.
But the convenience of being able to carry around 9 or 10 cd's in your mobile or your whole collection on your iPod can not be easily dismissed.
