1.0.0.3 Beta (May 20, 2001)
Now ain't THAT a flasher :)
I didn't download it, as the extensive compatibility list (like 8-10 models) does NOT include my Yamaha drive.
Anyhow, oddly, the site only offers V1.0.0.2 beta (upper right corner), while betanews offers you 1.0.0.3... can you say "back to the future" ? :)
1.0.0.3 Beta (Jun 27, 2001 - 11:27 AM)
Well well well :)
The old paradox of "naturally protected/unprotected".
You see, I have this nice theory... it says that everything you can protect on a computer is either naturally protected or naturally not so.
For example, AudioVideo is naturally not protected. First, as said above, people can just record the output. For better quality, just change a few bytes, and have the realplayer pipe its output to a .WAV recorder (been there, done that...). So audiovideo is naturally UNPROTECTED, as they have to be opened up to you fully so you can enjoy them, and then they can be stolen. Same with software copy protection (abit harder at times, but they HAVE to give you a WORKING copy, and if it works in one place, there must be a way to make it work in another).
The contrary example is a game that requires logging into a network if you wanna play. THEN the key is never in your hand, but in the company's. True that you may find holes in their shield, and hack the server, but those can be blocked, and theoretically there could be such an impregnable server...
End of theory, QED... All those DRM's are worth SH*T :)

1.0.0.3 Beta (May 31, 2001 - 4:53 AM)
Not So !!!!!
Current LCDs have a liquid crystal that can change phases by an electric signal, thus either blocking light, or letting it pass, with this light emmitted by a back-light (a lamp, if you wanna be simplistic :)
The OLED system still has TFT as a backbone (meanning a way to deliver the elctric chrge to each cell), but instead of making a crystal see-through or opaque, it actually makes the substance either gloaw or stay mute, so it needs no back-light, it uses its own light here ! (think of that glow-in the dark animal, the small 1 with the lit butt, the molecules used here are similar to the ones it uses... and I can't remember how its called, so if anybody can remind me...)
1.0.0.3 Beta (May 18, 2001 - 11:20 AM)
Hmm - thats not the end of the story...
Okey, so they have added the text-search filters. VERY wise. Everybody found ways 'round it. Now they intend to install Relatable's audio-based filters. Harder you say ? Can't fool'em you say ? Rubbish, says I.
I downloaded freeamp with relatable extensions. first, it recognized only about half of my MP3's... then, for the ones it DID recognize, adding a single second of SILENCE at the start of the MP3 made it "invisible" for the mighty relatable recognizer. So much for high-tech.
P.S. yes, this IS personal :) - I offered them a MUCH better performing filter, audio based, VERY hard to fool. Did they even bother to return my mail ? fat chance... Feel free to inform me if you need my help, Napster... still the same old moonie@doglover.com
1.0.0.3 Beta (May 8, 2001 - 2:13 PM)
Can anyone tell me which banks intend to use this system ?
I sort of am fond of my money, and I don't feel like donating it to the hacker community :)
1.0.0.3 Beta (May 7, 2001 - 8:40 AM)
I have to agree with some of your points, and as I work with Microsoft, I see what they're good for, BUT :
1. IE is only small because 90% of it load with windows (did you notice how slowly windows load nowdays ? - I tried Win 3.11 on my K7-1000, it loads in less than a second, how odd...) - This is a use of their monopoly, for better ot worse.
2. Other programming languages are left in the dust ? Hardly... Just for one, take Borland Delphi... I use it most of the time, it has every feature that a programmer needs, aside from... A while ago I had to write a driver and a directshow filter. Now, here only MS can create tools that do the job... Believe me dude, creating this was GRUESOME ! Visual C++ 6.0 is about as evolved as Borland Pascal 7... And that was released in 1990. Visual Studio .NET WILL be better for sure, maybe as good as Delphi 1 was (1991).
