  1. Comment - Skype doubles connection fees for many international calls

    (Aug 27, 2009 - 12:13 AM)

You paid for a google voice invite? I had one since the grandcentral service, but all my friends and family signed up on their site and got an invite within 2 weeks. I guess if you can't wait, you can go to ebay and buy it, but it's free if you have a little patience.

Anyway, on the original topic, most people are switching out of skype to gizmo because of the free phone calls with google voice, so the price increase on skype will only encourage more people to abandon them. It only sweetens the deal that gizmo is open source and sip protocol.

  2. Comment - While AMD banks on Abu Dhabi, Intel waves a $7 billion US flag

    (Feb 12, 2009 - 1:49 PM)

this may be the breaking point for my loyalty to AMD. I was a big supporter of their chips, but ever since they sold off stock to the UAE, I will be back to buying Intel. I hope both companies succeed as we need healthy competition in the chip market, but I like what Intel is doing here.

Both companies hire heavily in the foreign sector, but it is incorrect to assume which part of the manufacturing process is being outsourced to foreign workers. Building facilities in other countries is cheaper labor, that's why India and China are where the sweatshops are.

  3. Comment - Orange loses its iPhone exclusivity appeal in France

    (Feb 5, 2009 - 1:23 PM)

I actually disagree with the French court's decision. Both companies entered into a negotiated agreement for exclusivity. It should not be up to the courts to modify this arrangement because there is no damage to competition. So the other mobile companies cannot sell iphones, they have the right to make exclusive arrangements and deals with other manufacturers. This does not hinder their ability to compete as a cell phone company, but it does make them unable to sell iphones to their customers.

Apple has the right to make a deal for profit and Orange can also conduct business in this fashion. The french court is making a mockery of international business law. I'm probably in the minority with my thoughts, but I do not see the potential damage to other mobile companies in France. The iphone is exclusive to AT&T in the U.S., but I don't see other companies going bankrupt over it?

  4. Comment - 'Google for films' site helps Britons find media

    (Jan 29, 2009 - 9:35 AM)

Please link to the source of this article, unless you are claiming to be the original content holders. I think this is just paraphrased from the Reuters UK story a couple days ago. And is it too much to ask to enable the hyperlink for findanyfilm.com so that we may click on it (as 99% of technology news sites allow)?

  5. Comment - Supreme Court lets online porn filtration law expire

    (Jan 22, 2009 - 9:56 AM)

"I do not agree that porn is a good industry"

The content may disturb and bother many people, but most people do not understand how "good" the industry actually is. The popularity and perhaps decision in the VHS vs. Betamax war was the result of the pornography industry. The popularity of the internet was the result, in part, due to pornography. While not all pornography is "good", pornography has many categories and levels. Art is pornographic, speech can be pornographic. Restrictions and protections for children are essential and necessary, but should not be regulated by the government. Everyone's definition of taste and tolerance differs, and therefore it would be impossible to define the good and bad ones.
