  1. Comment - Code-frozen Firefox 3.5 beta gains 4% more speed against Chrome 2

    (Apr 20, 2009 - 12:43 PM)

I have all the browser on my system, for compatibility etc, but in the end, regardless of how the percentages run, my firefox loaded with its script blockers etc loads faster cos it doesn't load all the script on a page, the flash I don;t want etc. the other browsers don;t have the scripting resources available that firefox does have.

  2. Comment - Windows XP to Windows 7 upgrades: Difficult, but not impossible

When it comes to backing up Win7 actually has quite a comprehensive backup utility. When you set backups you have the choice of a system restore and files based backup as well as an image file of the oprating system. All part of Win7 and no need for a 3rd party App. Then as other have mentioned the easy transfer wizard. It has been around since vista came out and also as part of windows update for xp so you can transfer settings etc from xp to vista. MS has since WinME incorporated in one way or another a setting and transfer wizard, and yes it isnt always successful, but when people come out commenting about faures of operating sytem that have always been here and act like they are new, gets a bit annoying. Make sure you know your before you start commenting on NEW feature etc...

  3. Comment - Pirate Bay copyright infringement trial begins, founders plead 'not guilty'

Apart from the legal implications of l this I find the historic development of the technologies interesting. The development of mp3 and divx to compress music and video files to make the files smaller to share over the net. Now we all know that it was to share copyrighted stuff. And then on the bandwagon jumped Microsoft, Real Networks and a range of other corporates who helped add their own compression technologies, again helping ppl to again, share music and videos in smaller file format. But they didn't stop there. Those big companies (Again.. Microsoft, Apple, Samsung, Sony, Pioneer.. hmm big names) then decided, hey lets "enable" everyone to take these copied/converted(pirated) files and make them mobile with wonderful bits of technology like iPods, mp3 players, divx player, and lets not forget the adding of divx.mp3 support to dvd players so you can then play all those burnt to Blank DVD files that were converted with their formats etc. And while they are out there lets start building onto our mobile phones and cars and gps the ability as well to play these files... And again big names behind those products... In the end if we got rid of the ability to copy/convert movies and video, look at how useless half the products on the planet would be, but hey, if they make it.. we will convert it.

  4. Comment - Windows Mobile 6.5 made official, but not for older devices

    (Feb 19, 2009 - 11:31 AM)

What I find interesting about WM is that it can be what you want. I have my customised and most people who see it think at first its an iphone cos I have it shelled, installed all the fancy slide appz etc, and does basically everything the iphone does and more. There is a big base of appz out there, and who uses internet explorer anyway. Opera mobile and others out there a lot better and safer to use. And even better I can add bigger memory cards, or swap them out with new ones etc. In the end I use my as a mobile office, syncs well with my pc, and I must say I do prefer being able to write my sms's in cursive and jave the thing type it out for me. But I also have multiple keypad appz which give better predictive than the default. And I rarely get crashes, and I do have it set to automatically reset once a day, but that's just a system maintenance thing. Always good to have a reboot every now and then.

  5. Comment - Betanews CES 2009 Contest: Win Vista Ultimate and Office 2007

    (Jan 5, 2009 - 10:01 AM)

!) There have been many reviews of the WIndows 7 Betas, and the similarities to Vista. The initial specs for Windows 7 included a new file system as well as a complete rebuild of the core of the OS with built in emulation that would be implemented transparently in the background as each application was apparently going to run in a virtual box of sorts. Has this paradigm for computing been put away with windows 7 just being a modified vista with no REAL new technologies touted in the initial pre release blurbs of this new wonder OS of the future?

    2) About a year ago a storage prototype using a semitransparent gel matrix which allowed through the focusing of low intensity lasers focused with mirror giving 3D addressing within the matrix allowing multi-terabyte storage within this type of medium. The expected developments were to be available to commercial television studios late 2009 to 2010. Is this future technology still going to make it to the surface of the tech revolution or will it become yet another hot air wonder?

    3) The military has been using for a few years now and advanced polymer flexible LCD display in war zone that allowed communication with satellite and other communication protocols to help with planning of strategic military operations. When will this technology make it into mainstream society, and are their any available products yet using this technology?
