  1. Comment - European availability zone opens for Amazon EC2

Scott, thank you for mentioning the 3Tera cloud in your article. I would just like to correct what seems to be a misunderstanding in what our -- and our partners' -- business model is.

3Tera's cloud computing platform, AppLogic, is available both as a software license for running in-house internal clouds, and as a service (virtual private datacenter in the cloud). The service is available from us and about a dozen partners in multiple geographic locations.

There is no service/outsourcing requirement at all -- you sign up, get access to your VPDC and away you go deploying your app in the cloud. In fact, AppLogic runs a pretty much any existing application with no changes whatsoever (unlike EC2). You can see a sample of OSS and commercial applications our customers have deployed at http://forum.3tera.com/showthread.php?t=124.

We do have solutions provider partners, who also offer managed services and outsourced solutions, but the core offer is a self-serve cloud system. In addition, support for Linux, OpenSolaris, Solaris 10 and Windows is available on 3Tera clouds worldwide today.

Thank you for the opportunity to provide this correction. I'll be happy to provide more information (go to our web site, http://www.3tera.com).

    Best regards,
