RC 666 (Dec 12, 2003)
Still the best out there..... But I still have that complaint about the new modern skin. It's still too large (covers like 25% of the screenwidth), and the "grab to resize window" in the lower right corner still only shows a "resize horizontally" cursor (should be a diagonal cursor).......
The new thing that bugs me now which I discovered is when you switch between winshade and regular (modern skin) the position of the window itself changes rather much, it kind of "jumps"............
But all in all... super player... I hope they take their time to fix these bugs before the final release :)
Beta 2 (Oct 29, 2003)
This program still runs perhaps a little slow on my PIII 850 Mhz with the sliding "options window", but it's no biggie since you can turn the animation off........
One thing that DOES bug me (hoping someone from nullsoft actually reads this ;) ) is that the new default skin is SO big and combersome! And you can't downsize it either :/.....
I mean I run 1280x1024 on a 19" monitor and winamp still takes up like 20-25% of the screenwidth..... Besides that bug it's still the bug with the "resize corner" (lower right corner)..usually when you hover your mouse over a "resize corner" it should display a diagonal mousecursor, and not a horizontal.......
Oh well, I guess it still has some bugs to be ironed out, but I will still give it a 5 star because it's on the right tracks! (wouldn't be a dream if they only could skip the "AOL on desktop" icon install option as well)
2003b Build #3916 (Oct 23, 2003)
For all of you others: Go back and use the 3800 build... (while icq is closed) delete the ICQHttp.dll, remove the "ateBrowser" directory, and make a readonly file in icq called "ateBrowser"... regedit and change the HK_LM\Software\Mirabilis\ICQ\ICQPro\AutoUpdate to "no".....
Then take and disable all the extra buttons... and voila you have the icq99 kind of look back.....
For the others who wants this new build will have to wait for/hope for that the ppl over at www.allicq.com to "fix" this new build so that the ads don't display :)
Beta 1 (Oct 17, 2003)
Indeed very good successor! Great stuff, much faster than WA3! And they've made a pretty good job on the new skin (and thank god that nullsoft is a company that realises that ppl may want the old skin/style as well).
The only thing that bugs me is that "menus" are activated by default in the new skin, making it look kind of "big", but luckely they've made it easy to turn off.
The other thing that bugs me with the new skin is that when it's in winshade mode that it doesn't display the time or "location slider" (where in the song you are).
The last thing which probably only is a beta-bug is the inability to resize the main player window by pressing and holding in the lower right corner.
Btw, if you look at the "CD Ripping" feature and try to change it from 2x to something higher you will some of nullsoft's future plans for winamp (it says that you have to purchase the "Winamp Pro").
But hey, doesn't bother me! Winamp is meant to be a player :)
4.0.2 (Aug 31, 2003)
I thought that this personal firewall would still be free. I guess not. For a professional user KPF 2.15 does well.
I would have given it a 3 at least if it would still have been freeware and if the GUI would have had a "professional mode" and a "dummy mode". I mean, a firewall and IDS should at least display more details in the log besides the fact that it "might be" some kind of attack. (I mean, I would also want to know what ports have been blocked, what connection tries have been on what ports)... such logs were available on kpf 2.15 at least.
Why do developers nowaday increase the bloat along with the version number?
Oh well, yet another good software turned bad :(
I'll stick to 2.15 until some more profound changes have been made (like developers actually listening to their users)
4.0.2 (Apr 25, 2004 - 5:01 AM)
In fact in this release they have made it easier to actually remove the banner ads (no resourcehacking needed) which personally I think is a better thing. Without ads it looks even slimmer...even nice ;) .....
What you need to do is change your hosts file and add this line: 80.190.244.8 cb.icq.com ..... and then follow the instructions on this page: http://www.icq-4u.com/fo...3c3ced89a&p=763#763
4.0.2 (Jul 16, 2002 - 3:15 AM)
Well, I was selected for beta-testing a hardware last year, I hope the luck will repeat again ;).
But, to get one thing clear... it is really BETA hardware let me assure! the copy I tested, even though pretty nice, was bugridden. Too bad they don't send you a copy of the final product as well :(
4.0.2 (Jun 2, 2001 - 8:00 AM)
Well...Mozilla has the feature of blocking cookies from chosen sites or blocking images from them...
so MOZILLA ROCKS!!! YEah! ;)
4.0.2 (Mar 8, 2001 - 6:34 PM)
I know how to get rid of the sms-ad on ICQ...simple..just empty the partner.xml and write protect it (is in \ICQ\Partner)
But how the hell does one get rid of the ad that is plagueing the main msg-window?
Does anyone know a way to easely get rid of it?
