  1. Review - Microsoft Office 2010 Professional Plus

    Beta (Nov 18, 2009)

Have been using it for 2 days now, and it is a great improvement over Office 2007.

There are some issues MS need to address with the *64 version regarding add ins, as they tend not to work, however they are working ok in the *32 version.

Nice to see IMAP email accounts created retain their expanded tree view once the Outlook is closed and reopened, something that has not occurred in previous versions - and was why I moved to Thunderbird/Shredder for me email client - I may change back nearer final release if *64 version gets add ins working.
Overall worth the download and usage. A step in the right direction.

  2. Review - Google Chrome for Windows

    4.0.223.9 Beta (Oct 22, 2009)

Continues to get better with each release.
2 extensions that work nicely in this are xmarks and lastpass.

  3. Review - Ad Muncher

    4.8 Build 31318 (Oct 21, 2009)

Ad Muncher still rocks. Have been using it for many years.
Would not like to have my computer without it.

  4. Review - XdN Tweaker

    0.9.2.0 (Oct 2, 2009)

Gets better and better with each release.
    Really great application.

    Change Log:
    0.9.2.0
    October 1st, 2009

    - Program now tries to detect system locale.
    - Added option to Disable/Enable the Libraries folder under
Windows 7. This is on the Win 7 Interface II page.
    - Added third Windows 7 Interface page with two new features:
    - New Regional Theme feature. This will enable regional themes
for English versions of Windows 7. I've only tested this on
the EN-US version of Windows 7.
    - New Regional Wallpaper feature. This and the above feature
will add new items to the "Personalize" window.
    - Hid the old AutoRun disable function and added a newer and
supposedly improved method for preventing programs (such as
malware) from auto-running from external media such as USB drives
    or CD/DVD-ROMs. This is for XP/Vista/Windows 7.
    - Added link to 3rd party program to let you customize the Windows 7
logon screen background. This on the UAC page under Windows 7.

  5. Review - Norton Internet Security

    2010 17.0.0.136 (Sep 29, 2009)

    Absolutely a great product.
Very light on system resources, infact the lightest I have ever used.
It even uses less than Eset, which was a pleasant surprise.

I now use this as my main AV/Firewall product, a great replacement from Eset that I had used for years, but ditched as they can't be bothered to sort some small windows 7 compatibility issues out - you just don't need a complacent company like that.

not sure how CyberDoc999 can call it bloated, perhaps a sheltered life from what bloat is out there. (And no I don't work for Norton - I'm a qualified independent IT Professional)

All around good protection, light on resources. Along with my main PC I even have it running on a old acer 240, Windows 7, 512 Ram with no issues.

  6. Comment - Office 2007 SP2 is released, can indeed save ODF by default

    2010 17.0.0.136 (Apr 29, 2009 - 10:15 AM)

Downloaded direct from Microsoft, using Firefox 3.5 B4 and no download manager. Download went ok. Install went really well.
Performance notably increased in Outlook. Great update and well worth downloading.

  7. Comment - Google: Windows 7 users should be able to choose any browser, any time

    2010 17.0.0.136 (Mar 11, 2009 - 2:25 PM)

What rubbish, google can't even produce a good browser.. I would dislike set-up taking longer than necessary just to choice what browsers I want, and google seem dumb - who would want to use a dated browser just to have to install an updated one, lets face it the ridiculous thing google call chrome is updated nearly every week!
Google should keep out of the browser business - an improve search results.. Shame on google!

  8. Comment - Opera CEO von Tetzchner: Microsoft's IE8 'turn-off' is not enough

    2010 17.0.0.136 (Mar 10, 2009 - 12:14 PM)

What rubbish from Opera. I am going to un-install their browser from my O/S and continue using IE8 or FF. I hope that opera ceases to exist. There has always been free choice, people can always download their browser if they want! Perhaps it's people who choose not to install their browser because it is not open! Bye Bye Opera Browser...

  9. Comment - Downadup worm causes confusion over Autorun

    2010 17.0.0.136 (Jan 26, 2009 - 10:08 AM)

What a waste of time and effort. In Vista and Windows 7 - Just open your control panel, click on the autoplay icon, and then un-tick 'use autoplay....' That seems to stop autorun.inf for me.

For those not using Vista or Windows 7 - Best of Good Fortune to you - You're need it!

  10. Comment - From the ME: Betanews releases Alpha

    2010 17.0.0.136 (Jan 14, 2009 - 8:38 AM)

I totally agree with AndyAmo. The front page is far to busy, and I miss the side by side info of news and files.
