1.5 RC (Jul 23, 2007)
There truly is very little competition for the new 1.5 of Joomla. All the work done in just little over a year since the split from Mambo is amazing. I like Drupal and give it high marks also but it is not nearly as complete a system as Joomla. I usually don't review a project (yes, shame on me) but, I had to rebut several of Ian C. comments below. First, Joomla has a real backend (unlike Drupal which cannot make up its mind - you Drupal users know what I mean), secondly SEF (search friendly urls) are built-in into 1.5 just turn them on in the config; not to mention that there are probably a dozen free add-ons (and several commercial ones too) for the current 1.0.13. The developer community for Joomla is much larger than any other system (see extensions.joomla.org). Most if not all those supposed commercial extensions have nothing comparable at Drupal or any other open CMS (most offer free versions of their products also). Yes, there a some things that other systems do better (not many) but for all its worth Joomla is hands down the best out there right now and Joomla 1.5 cements this fact even more so. I will admit, the one negative aspect about 1.5 is going the upgrade path from the current 1.0 code. In my opinion (and others) this is will not be as fluid as I would have liked but never-the-less it looks to worth the small hassle that users may encounter.
2.6.5 Beta (Mar 11, 2006)
Problem, crashes on one of my systems quite a bit when shutting down. Works well on another. I know it is a beta. As it stands today, I still prefer Copernic Deskop Search over this one. But, hey I am keeping my eyes open for the future.
Another problem, it does not seem to allow itself to be deleted from the Add or Remove Programs dialog. Actually, it is even in the list (at least I don't see it) I removed it from being active on start by manually taking it out of the startup menu, but without an uninstall option it still resides on my system (bad micrsoft, bad bad bad Microsoft :) )
2.5.2.950 RC3 (Mar 11, 2006)
I must agree whole heartedly about this program. It is great! The database access is fast. Heck, the whole program is fast (not like MS or others with slow response times to large music databases). Also, the ability quickly change properties, easily manipulate files, play music (networked - did I say fast already :) ), and host of other useful features make this my new music player of choice
Yes, there are some rough edges and the icons sometimes look dated (i.e. the tree menu)
3.5 Beta 2 (Dec 7, 2005)
This program gets better and better with each release. I have never had any serious problems. With the final versions (Betas a few nicks, but hey they are betas). In fact, within the last year I have seen the author do a tremendous amount of program updates (from 1.0 to 3.5 all included free). Speaking of the super search, it is well worth the price of admission and it has saved me countless hours looking for something. Yes,there are similar services, but nothing as complete as Newsleecher provides. One note: I wish there was a better help/documentation system for all those newbies I have converted over to this program. (Hint!! Hint!!)
3.5 Beta 2 (Sep 8, 2008 - 4:22 PM)
...and we are still using those silly round things, called wheels. Where is that darn hover craft or super sonic jet pack that all those movies form the 50's and 60's said we be using today?
3.5 Beta 2 (Sep 8, 2008 - 4:09 PM)
We in the good old USA call it solar power :)
3.5 Beta 2 (Jun 19, 2008 - 1:12 PM)
The article does not say that. It says "besides its claimed 1 petaflop performance". I don't see any evidence of that machine ever doing the petaflop dance. I can claim my machine does 1 petaflop too.
3.5 Beta 2 (Nov 29, 2007 - 10:49 PM)
I can't wait to see all the whining and complaining for all those early adopters who bought what really was a beta. Come on the iPhone has so much missing. Remember the complaining when Apple dropped the price a few hundred, like the market should stand still because they got to be cool for only a couple of months. Well now I can see them crying that they should get these new phones at a big discount because they spent all that money early and now somebody else is going to cooler then them. "Bboo hoo"!
3.5 Beta 2 (Oct 19, 2007 - 12:45 PM)
