  1. Comment - Nokia buddies up with Skype

    (Feb 18, 2009 - 8:25 AM)

I have a Nokia N810. Skype is already on it. The voice quality is surprisingly clear. Microsoft better get a handle on the mobile market if they want to have a chunk of it.

  2. Comment - Grand Theft Auto blamed after taxi driver murdered in Thailand

Jack Thompson is gonna be all over this... Oh wait, that's right: He can't. Not anymore. Looks like the game hating fascists will have to find a new poster boy.

  3. Comment - Photoshop Express' botched terms of service to be revised

What ever happened to business ethics? I'd love to meet the technical writer who was tasked with the duty of producing this ethically questionable EULA.

The first thing they teach you at college, in both business and technical writing is clarity and ethics. This document seems to be lacking both.

To paraphrase, the agreement you make by using their web-based service is this:
"Adobe doesn't necessarily own the rights to your intellectual property, but they're legally free to do whatever they choose with it."

I'd love to have that kind of right with things that I download. Could you imagine the feedback from the RIAA alone?

  4. Comment - Columbia University professor could trigger a Blu-ray injunction

What is with all these people suing video game and electronics companies for "loosly copied" patent infringements lately? I mean, we had the Wii remote deal, the Gibson/Guitar Hero guitar deal, and now this?

So this woman came up the semiconductor process that is used to make blue laser diodes? That's kind of reaching. I mean, by the same token, Ford could sue any factory that uses the assembly line method for manufacturing, as Henry Ford came up with it.

I can understand suing for an actual product idea, but for the process to make a product?!

  5. Comment - Updated: Windows Vista SP1 downloadable now, ships tomorrow

    (Mar 18, 2008 - 4:00 PM)

I installed my SP1 today. I have had no major problems. The only 2 things I had to do additionally was to reconfigure my surrround sound settings, and to change my security settings in Windows Live One Care/IE 8 (Beta 1) to allow Windows Update to connect for updates. Other than that, no problems. My PC actually detects all 4 GB of RAM now too. I'm happy with the update.
