4.2 Beta Build 9.20.3 (Sep 30, 2000)
The best of what I've seen, but has a nasty bug: sometimes the log windows says that the directory listing is complete, but the right window is blank (yes, there are files in this directory;-). Tried to report this problem to the tech support a month ago. Silence. Not very nice. Other than that -- very, very good.
2.3 Build 67 (Sep 30, 2000)
Tried to make it crash under Win2k -- no luck. Very stable, even when my box is being port-scanned. Can get a bit slow when you transfer a huge file from one station to another on the LAN, but hey, use filters, the dramatically increase the performance. I've been using this proggie for a few months, and I tried many other sniffers, CommView seems to be the best one out of what I've seen so far. Speaking of "getting slow" or "freezing" stuff -- I guess you either get high performance and no real-time packet display and decode (sniffers like Observer), or you get lower performance and enjoy the real-time display (CommView and SpyNet). I prefer the second type. Also, CommView is the only sniffer that works with W2k dial-up. A plussie for me.
