   Review - DVDFab HD Decrypter

   5.2.2.2 (Dec 26, 2008)

   This program is great. I was using the free decrypter part of this, along with DVD Shrink for quite a while to back up my kids DVD collection. Then I sprung for the gold version, which has the DVD Shrink functionality built-in. The author updates frequently, as new DVD anti-copy schemes come out. He also addresses any bugs in the software. Some people think the updates are a pain in the @ss, but that is necessary to keep up with the latest DVD copy protections.

   Review - Defraggler

   Defraggler works as described, and does it very well. The author, Piriform, makes a few other quality programs. I also use CCleaner, and Recuva, which is also made by Piriform.

   Review - Spyware Terminator

   This program has come a long way. It keeps getting better. I use a few spyware\adware cleaners, each one finds different objects. The realtime protection is nice, but I usually disable it because it can be a pain.

   This was terrible. All that I get is the splash screen, I let it sit for 10 minutes, then finally have to kill the program via task manager. I am a CCLEANER user at heart, but thought I would give this "Wipe" a try.

   When they broke up the original Bell System, the quality infrastructure declined. The old Western Electric manufacturing, combined with Bell Laboratories R&D, had the best telco equipment around. The telephones & switch equipment manufactured before the breakup, were designed to last between 30 & 40 years! They were not disposable like the equipment today. As an old (former) Bell Labs researcher, I can attest to this. They used platinum & gold plating on all contacts.
   
   Phones survived extreme drop tests, crush testing, etc. Drop a phone now, and the buttons pop fall out, etc. The phone was made reliable, as it was considered to be a lifeline.
   
   And payphones, remember them? They were partially subsidised by ma bell, and was a dime or quarter to place a call for many years until Verizon took it over.

8. Comment - Laptop Theft Exposes 243k Credit Cards

   Great, 243,000 persons credit card & personal data sits on the front seat of someone's car, un-encrypted! Ernst & Young said the guy was within his rights, but those 243K people just who had their underware drawers exposed were not I guess?
   
   And it took this incedent for them to start using data encryption. Only because Sun's McNeally, and probobly other high profile person's data were exposed is the only reason. Data encryption may not be 100% safe, but it's a hell of a lot better than none.
   
   The whole lot should be tossed out on their negligent arses (that's where their brains are)!

9. Comment - Serious Flaw Hits Symantec AntiVirus

   I like Symantec Antivirus Corporate edition (SAV-CE) the best, better than McAfee. But the standard (retail) Norton Antivirus can be trouble. Especially if you have to uninstall it, you could be in for a tedious cleanup of the registry, etc. Been down that road a few times already.
