  1. Review - GAlert

    2.5.0.5 (Oct 31, 2005)

I've been using this a few days and it's been flawless. Multiple accounts, good mail notifications, and Google news notifications. Surprised to see a low rating, I guess because it cost 12 bucks to register. If it stays this good I'll shell out the 12 bucks with no problem.

  2. Review - AOL Explorer

    1.1.4234.1043b Beta (Aug 4, 2005)

Get's a 3 because I like the interface but I can't access some sites that I frequently use that look for IE. For some reason, the servers do not recognize the AOL Explorer user agent string. If the browser included a user-agent switcher it would be a 4 or 5 star based on it's appearance, features and functionality. Hope the developers read this.

Note to Netscape 8 fanboy: Netscape 8 is an AOL product, if you like it great, but it's kind of stupid to slam AOL if they developed your favorite browser.

  3. Review - AOL Mail Client

    4314.2a Beta (Jul 1, 2005)

Day late, dollar short. I'd use Eudora 1.0 before I'd download this.

  4. Review - Netscape Navigator for Windows

    8.0.1 (May 21, 2005)

Not perfect but it's great for those of us that prefer Firefox but need to open IE in order for some sites to work/display properly. It's the best of both worlds. Firefox extensions work in Netscape by modifying the .rdf file until developers start making their extension compatible. The naysayers either never have to use IE or IE is their default browser. For the rest of us it's a compelling browser.

  5. Review - ChaosSync for PocketPC

    6.03 (May 10, 2005)

Great tool! I sync to my Smartphone and it's flawless. Time and Chaos is easily the best PIM around. If anyone knows something better, all-in-one-screen, please email me at rwonline((remove this))@gmail.com I'm always looking for the next best thing, but after using T&C for over 5 years I haven't found anything close.

  6. Comment - AOL Releases Netscape Browser 8.1

    6.03 (Jan 25, 2006 - 4:50 PM)

    Why bother?

Just install the IE Tab extension for Firefox and there is no use for this browser.

  7. Comment - XM to Offer High-Def Surround Sound

Yeah, NFL on the radio, how many people listen to NFL games on the radio?

  8. Comment - Windows Sidebar: 'Sky's The Limit'

    6.03 (Sep 14, 2005 - 8:34 PM)

    Yeah right, Sky's the Limit.

Stop pumping up something that you can only describe in abstract terms. What is the "real world" use?

Too much of the crap that comes out these days is puffery with a "wow, that's cool" shelf life of a month or two.

I think widgets are fun for about 2 minutes. According to this article, the only thing different between "widgets" and "gadgets" are that "gadgets" are tied to the OS. Geez, that makes me excited.

I'd say they would be looking for a lawsuit like the way IE was tied to the OS, but one difference - you need the OS, I don't think the average Joe gives two hoots about widgets.

  9. Comment - IE7 to Feature Customizable Search Box

    6.03 (Jul 29, 2005 - 1:29 PM)

Wow I can't believe it! A search box in the browser's toolbar. That is revolutionary, I can't wait for IE7!

  10. Comment - Internet Explorer 7 Beta Goes Gold

    6.03 (Jul 27, 2005 - 10:04 PM)

I've been using IE7 for a couple of hours and my initial impression - nothing spectacular. It's basically IE6 with an alternate toolbar placement, tabbed browsing, and RSS discovery.

This could have easily been IE 6.1
