aol has webmail and imap. Using a tool to fetch Gmail is violative of google's TOS -- aside from that there's another Gmail too that's completely freeware and will soon offer IMAP for Gmail.

What a great idea. Not to knock this product but one can also retrieve hotmail/msn mail with tools like izymail or web2pop and completely circumvent the ad "feature" in outlook (express)

Why use internet explorer? http://www.cert.org says not to. Firefox is not plauged with nightmarish security problems. It has a ton of free extensions (akin to photoshop plugins) that allow one to customize the browser specifically to one's taste:

Kiss popups goodbye. Kick ads to the curb with the AdBlock extension. It's only 5 megs. It's zippy fast on load.

This wouldn't be an issue if manufacturers focused on the only two important issues in mobile phone design:
audio fidelity
signal integrity
Phones do not need: games, web browsers, cameras, or for that matter color LCDs.
