  1. Review - Update Notifier

    1.1.6.141 (May 11, 2009)

Finds more updates than the FileHippo.org updater. The only slight annoyance is the download site, which has an unnecessary second page you have to click through to get to the actual download. For the ads, I guess.

    @equivalent
Were you using a crack? The software might check your key against a blacklist, or, if a checksum of the executable fails, deliberately write coasters. The fact that they pass verification makes me even more suspicious.
My apologies if this is not the case.

AVG FAQ #1574: False positive "user32.dll"

"In case you are not able to run your Windows XP operating system after AVG virus definition update, it may be caused by a false positive on a specific "user32.dll" system file. The file was moved to the AVG Virus Vault and deleted. Therefore it is not possible to start Windows."

    FAIL

  4. Review - Miranda IM

    0.8.0 Test Build 18 (Jul 24, 2008)

The Unicode version gets a 404 Forbidden
You don't have permission to access /builds/miranda-v080a18w.zip on this server.

    EDIT: seems fine now

  5. Review - digsby

    Build 15142 (Jul 24, 2008)

The most recent build has a tiny drop-down link on the final page of the installer which hides:

X Make Google Powered Digby Search my home page
X Make Google Powered Digsby Search my search page

    (ticked by default)

Earlier builds openly displayed these options. One has to question why the authors have decided to hide what amounts to a browser hijack behind an innocuous "Extra settings" link.
