  1. Review - Logitech SetPoint (32-bit)

    4.60 (May 20, 2008)

Still buggy with my Logitech Marble Mouse. Auto Scroll and Universal Scroll behave erratically, although the other features behave better. Still slows DocuPrinter down to a crawl while enabled. Oddly, this version works better and is a bit more stable under Windows XP SP3 than it is under Windows Vista SP1... and it's supposed to be FOR Vista! Still needs improvement.

  2. Review - Microsoft Internet Explorer for Windows XP

    8.0 Beta 1 (Mar 8, 2008)

Major rendering problems and instability with our enterprise library card cataloging web-based application (which is W3C-compliant). More like an alpha build, due to the behavior that we experienced.

The only plus is that we were able to uninstall it and easily move back to IE7.

  3. Review - Logitech SetPoint (32-bit)

    4.00 (Jun 6, 2007)

I have to agree with the other user below, I too bought the Logitech Marble Mouse (and also the Trackman Wheel) but find SetPoint a total software disaster. I really do like the feel of the Marble Mouse, but the SetPoint software causes ALL SORTS of problems with my applications. For example, it slows down DocuPrinter (a product by Neevia) to the point where it's unusable. Other assorted applications malfunction in various ways. Remove SetPoint, and the problems are gone. Unfortunately, that does away with the programmable buttons on the Marble Mouse too. It's a crying shame Logitech can't release a software driver/interface that works along side other applications. And this version is only for Vista, which has it's own instability issues!

  4. Review - WinRAR (32-bit)

    3.70 Beta 1 (Jan 10, 2007)

Another useful upgrade for an already top-notch archiver. I use WinRAR with OCB (http://fileforum.betanew...WinRAR_OCB/1135618393/1) for creating RAR-based backup archives. They seem much more stable than Zip64 format. I have never run into a corrupt RAR archive file.. can't say the same for ZIP format. Plus you can't beat the price of WinRAR - $30, and once you pay, it's a life-time license with free upgrades. 5+.

  5. Review - Sticky Password

    3.0.0.4830 Beta (Aug 26, 2006)

As part of my job description, I download and evaluate software for my clients. This password manager shines above the others I have tested. Ease of use, reliability, and reasonable cost are a few of the positive points. Both my wife and I use it on our personal computers in addition.

The Firefox issues the reviewer from Nov of 2004 mentions are not an issue for me. Also worth mentioning with respect to Firefox, I use it with some 30+ other extensions installed, with no conflicts. I suspect whatever issues with Firefox existed in Nov of 2004 have long since been addressed.

Does what is says, and beats RoboForm, and others hands down. A+.

  6. Comment - Symantec Releases Norton 360

    3.0.0.4830 Beta (Feb 28, 2007 - 1:50 PM)

"..bringing the company back into close competition with McAfee and Microsoft." Competing for what, the worst of the worst? Give me a break. The only reason Norton products have *any* following whatsoever is because they have lots of retail shelf space, and with that name recognition. And quite simply the non-technical retail-buying public doesn't know any better.

Norton and McAfee are among the worst antivirus products on the market. I have killed Norton Antivirus on many a client computer and will continue to do so. Thank goodness for Norton Killer and similar utilities to kill off Norton junkware.

AVG and NOD32 are much better choices. Norton products do nothing by suck the performance out of your PC. I suppose back in the early days when Peter Norton's face was on the box it might have been a contender, but those days are long gone.

  7. Comment - FCC Ends Morse Code Testing for Ham Radio

    3.0.0.4830 Beta (Feb 26, 2007 - 12:22 PM)

I suppose this ruling is progress, I just hope CW doesn't disappear altogether. I've been on 10m voice over the years, but my first love is CW. I guess I'm a bit nostalgic, and I keep my knee key tip-top. There's a lot of pride in learning the IRTC. -KA8QGN.
