9.6 (Jun 15, 2009)
I know the version text on the AMD site says 9.5, but the file on the site actually points to a 9.6 version file, see:

After having used AVG for a very long time I feel kinda of sad to write this bad review about the product. Also because I'm not entirely sure that it's actually the program that's malfunctioning. But the latest months I've been having trouble with it. My Vista 32bit Ultimate Ed. keeps saying somethings wrong with it and there almost all the time some red exclaimation mark on the tray icon.
Sometimes trying to update the antivirus seems to solve the problem but no all the time. Eventually you get kind of used to errors like; it can't conenct to the virus database online, or that you need to restart for the next update to apply (without downloading any updates) and so forth.
I might be Vista or it might be Windows Defender really messing up the AVG product - who knows? I've decided to give Avast! a change again. It seems like the only real alternative to AVG anyway.
3.0 Build 1301 (Jan 2, 2009)
Excellent PDF reader! It's a small install, it's fast and it works.
The only reason for not giving this piece of software a 5/5 is that it seems the developers are beginning to add "features" which reminds me of all the reasons to find alternate versions like I once did with Adobe.
All sorts of features in the installer most of which I'd pass on and thankfully still can but also the updater features allows me to install all sorts of things I have no idea what's for. This latter features actually reminds me a lot of the same features Adobe has.
Is Foxit PDF Reader beginning to loose it's own reason for existing?

This is absolutely one of the greatest programs I'm running. I've already recommended this program to several of my friends and family members.
It does what it says and I've never experienced a broken system due to the use of this software. It's updated frequently and it's free.
Build 33 (r18152) Beta (Oct 9, 2008)
I really like the work that has been put into this program. It's free, it pretty and it has a ton of features but isn't bloated.
The problem with the program is the connection time. It takes forever for the program to connect and even after it's connected it still has to connect to the services.
I like the gmail feature but opening a mail from it will not give you the choice to delete the mail on the webpage, you'd have to click the icon and click delete. The preview is quite nice but it's slow compared to GmailNotifier that in my case always detects incoming mail faster.
There was some weird ICQ related bug but I found out via their forum how to work around, simply disable the error tooltips. No the best workaround but perhaps it's one of the fixed issues in this new beta build.
There's also some pretty weird stuff related to the groups you're able to make. I made a group called Facebook (I like that feature btw - really nice) and added my Facebook friend to this group when they came online. Later I realized I'd just simply put them in either a new group or add them along with a different IM protocol, like MSN or ICQ. This feature is also very nice. This means you can contact people no matter what IM they are using simply by doubleclicking on their name.
Sometimes though, the old "facebook" group turns up and I have to move people again even though I thought the group was empty (it displayed 0/0 and I even tried deleting it). I thought I might clean-up the online list by showing the offline buddies but it really didn't work for me.
All in all this is a great program with a lot of possibilities. It's still under development and it's bold to add features that requires to adept to other peoples software (GoogleTalk, ICQ, Facebok etc.) but it still has some issues. Nothing serious, except perhaps the connection time.

Isn't 1.65 Trillion USD about the same as Dr. Evil demands in Austin Powers? ....

Oh I almost forgot. Think about the poor old Granny who connects to the internet to get mail from her son or daughter who doesn't protect her computer from spy/ad/malware and virus - she would probably get part of a bot-network soon enough and might even get to be the proud owner of her own little smtp server that sends out 10000 spam mails a minute.
She of course will have to pay the goverment all of her pension to cover the taxes.
And another thing.. Freedom of speech will now have to be redefined. Freedom of speech for those who can afford it - or something.
Build 33 (r18152) Beta (May 31, 2006 - 5:38 AM)
I think someone should consider adding taxes to the words that come out of politians.

I wonder what the point is to make another web editor - now Microsoft has:
Web Matrix
Visual Studio Web Developer Express
Visual Studio 2005
and now this?
Yes, and of course Frontpage - which this program seems to take over, but really - where's the need?
