  1. Review - Mmm FREE

    2.02 (Jun 29, 2005)

The idea is ok, but I was quite upset with the fact that the program tried to check for an update without even warning me. And in a totally wrong fashion - it won't just try to connect once in a while, let's say once every hour or so: it will hammer the TCP/IP stack with endless queries until it can connect.

I don't think I'm a smart coder, but aggressively polling a resource is quite a dumb practice, especially for such an unimportant process like mmm.

Fix the thing and come back with a better version.

  2. Review - iMesh Light

    5.0.1.3 Build 3 (Apr 12, 2005)

The program works, but hacks the Windows installation. It cost me three total reinstallations of the OS to understand what was wrong, but now I know. Have a look at the bottom of this page: http://www.kellys-korner...m/xp_haldll_missing.htm

No program in the world should tamper with the OS files. I wish there was a negative rating.

  3. Review - RomCenter

    2.70 Beta 2 (Jul 14, 2004)

RomCenter is a fine piece of software. Whereas it may lack the tons of detailed and finetuned settings you may find in clrmame (and hence I rate it 4 instead of 5), its intuitive interface makes it easy to manage your roms and always have a *visual* idea of what is wrong with your sets, which is definitely better than just reading reports. Another nice feature is the possibility to download updated dat files directly from inside the program, which saves you the weekly trip to logiqx.com with all the browsing and stuff.

Recommended, unless you want to spend your nights managing your roms.

  4. Comment - E-mails Reveal FEMA Incompetence

    2.70 Beta 2 (Nov 4, 2005 - 9:27 PM)

    You're welcome.

  5. Comment - E-mails Reveal FEMA Incompetence

    2.70 Beta 2 (Nov 4, 2005 - 2:32 PM)

    > A congressional committee is currently

    "DOWN more"?

  6. Comment - New Hi-Fi Music Store Shows Promise

    2.70 Beta 2 (Oct 15, 2005 - 3:33 AM)

"However, I will cede to Microsoft that it has the format down pat. Compared with Apple's iTunes, music on WM Lossless just seems to be fuller with more depth. Bass is more pronounced, vocals sound more natural. And to the audiophile, it's the little things like that which count."

Does this guy know what "lossless" exactly means? My guess: no.

  7. Comment - Ballmer: Linux May Violate 228 Patents

    2.70 Beta 2 (Nov 19, 2004 - 5:27 AM)

He forgot to mention that by using Linux people become blind, and hair grows on their palms.

They are more and more scared. Even Windows users can be happy: maybe they will feel like making their software better.

  8. Comment - New Malware Causes Concern

    2.70 Beta 2 (Jun 27, 2004 - 2:49 PM)

I don't agree. Firefox is not integrated in the OS, so despite being open to attacks like every other application connected to the Internet, it's not as dangerous as IE.

It's not about Firefox being secure, it's about IE being insecure.
