I have to say that I much prefer CDBurnerXP Pro which is also available here for free. But, in the end, I always go back to Nero, yes it's bloated, yes you have to pay for it, but it's still the best CD/DVD Burner out there, in my opinion anyway.
0.9.8.7b Beta (Aug 10, 2009)
This is pretty good for a free program, but it has a really annoying banner that it puts on all captured images and video!
If it's freeware it shouldn't have this!
Hence only 3/5

Gotta say, i think this is a bad idea from Microsoft. Windows 7 is a great Operating System and has run everything I've thrown at it without needing a virtual XP.
I also feel it is going to slow down the adoption of 64 bit in retail as many companies will say 'keep using the old 32 bit version in XP mode" rather than fork out to make new drivers, ect.
We need to completely break with the past, it really is time that 32 bit software was abandoned. Hopefully Windows 8 will only be available in 64 bit, and it won't have any kind of backwards compatibility with 32 bit applications.

I have to agree that this software is bad news. DO NOT install it or even run the installer, it is riddled with spyware and other junk.

Fine as long as they keep the usual methods of payment for those of us who don't want to nuke our brains so don't have mobile phones.

All I want is a reasonable cheap Player with reasonable quality above and beyond normal DVD. It HD DVD is better quality than DVD and cheaper than BR DVD then I'll go with HD DVD. It's impossible not to think about the Beta/VHS war and those that got stung by it. The mass market wants cheap and reasonable quality NOT expensive and ultra high quality. I won't be buying into this new war until a winner emerges or all players are multi format.
All I watch on a DVD is the film, not the extras or alternative endings or commentaries. Just the film. I, like many, still have a tube TV of under 36".
I will get a flat screen TV when they are £250 for the same size as what I've got. I'll get a new generation DVD player when I can afford a screen worth watching it on.
As for Sony, their biggest problem is greed. Their licensed products tend to be niche market items due to expense and lack of penetration. Their mini disc was more expensive than CDs, their memory sticks were more expensive than SD cards, Beta max was more expensive than VHS. The expense wasn't just to the consumer, it cost way too much for the other manufacturers to license the technology. Their big success was the walkman, and that was because you could buy lots of other makes at cheaper prices. I've never known anyone who had an actual Sony made walkman. Mine was a cheap store make.

I can't believe people use Wikipedia as a viable source of reliable information! For all we know, every single entry on there may be pure fiction. Remember the old adage as well "History is written by the victor". All the entries on there will be one sided in the extreme. When I want reliable information on a subject I go to blogs, related sites and "official" sources and the correlate the information myself.
As for the US Government, they've been fooling their people for years.

Way to loose customers guys! You're not going to last much longer with that kind of attitude!
2.4.0 Beta 4 (Jul 1, 2007 - 3:46 PM)
I don't understand them. I have never wanted anything so bad that I would sit outside a shop for hours waiting or queue if there's more than a couple of people in front! It can always wait. And this thing, it's just a phone for gawds sake, OK it does other thing, but I bet most people have already got all the gadgets, so it's a gimmick.
