  1. Review - Foxit Reader

    3.1.0.0824 (Aug 24, 2009)

I am quite disapponted with the direction Foxit took lately. Version 3.0 is excellent if you are careful enough not to install the unwanted "value added" things, during the installation. Version 3.1 took things further that way. Now it really goes in the direction of becoming a bloatware. Who needs an internet search bar inside a PDF viewer? and now it seems that there is no way to turn off the internal ads (in version 3.0 there is).

Now when I reverted back to version 3.0, it practically means that the version I use will no longer be maintained.

  2. Review - Foxit Reader

    3.0 Build 1506 (Mar 30, 2009)

Foxit reader is a much better replacement for Adobe.
Most of the problems it had in former versions are now solved.
One should be careful during the installation if one wants Foxit to be free from an irrelevant toolbar, an irrelevant shortcut to e-bay. During installation, choose custom installation, then choose not to install the Foxit toolbar, and in the next installation screen choose not to add shortcuts to e-bay. Now, the only remained thing is to open the program, and under the vuew menu to uncheck the advertisement. This will permanently disable the internal advertisement, and will let Foxit be free from nagging/unwanted things.

  3. Review - Power Defragmenter

    2.0.125 (Apr 16, 2008)

It is a useful companion to other defragmenters.

It is just a GUI for contig, and does a good job as GUI.

While contig is useful, it should not be treated as a replacement for other defragmenters.

It usually does not organize the files in a wise way - something that other defragmenters do. Its power, however, is in its ability to defragment files that other defragmenters cannot handle. It is recommended to use contig after another defragmenter has finished doing what it can.

  4. Review - HijackThis

    2.0.2 (Jul 7, 2007)

A very useful and powerful tool, but novice users should practice caution and get help from power users.

The automatic assistance service by Trendmicro is still not as useful as the one by hijackthis.de, and even the one by hijackthis.de does not suffice.

Nevertheless, it is a powerful tool.

  5. Review - XnView for Windows

    1.90.2 (Feb 8, 2007)

A very powerful and flexible picture viewer, and converter.

Has a few editing capabilities, and can view also many movie formats, but it is weak when it comes to movies.

Yet for pictures it is my favorite. It is more flexible and customizable than Irfanview (another excellent viewer, even though I prefer XNView). Supports many formats including rare ones.
