  1. Review - Mozilla Thunderbird for Windows

    3.0 Beta 1 (Dec 10, 2008)

    @Ulmo

    - You don't REALLY need multiple email accounts unless you're some kind of v-pimp. You can easily forward all other non-essential email accounts to a single Gmail account for easy management.

    - Try using labels, they're really nice and they also show as 'folders' via IMAP. That's how I separate emails from work, voicemail and some online stores. Very easy to re-organize, you don't need to move emails at all.

    - Privacy? There's no such thing, unless both parties use encryption. Gmail or not.

I still prefer using an email client myself and Thunderbird does a really good job. IMAP was a nice addition to Gmail, so now I can use both. I use Gmail when my browser is already open..

  2. Review - The KMPlayer

    2.9.3.1430 Beta (Mar 3, 2008)

Project51, people like you shouldn't be allowed on sites like this one.

Please, don't rate something if you don't know what you're talking about.

  3. Review - Comodo Antivirus

    1.1 Beta (Jul 11, 2006)

People rating software they haven't tried should be arrested and deported to Mars.

  4. Review - Mozy Remote Backup

    1.6.0.8 Beta (Apr 4, 2006)

    Pantagruel, your logic is discutable.

A remote backup is essential for any vital information. If you trust mobile hard drives as your main backup, you'll learn the hard way. Anyone with decent IT knowledge knows you need backups of your backup.

They're mainly saying that you don't need any costly hardware to get peace of mind, especially for home users and SMBs. You feel a lot safer to have some backup on a workstation + a remote copy . Let's say... you backup your stuff on your external hard drive, and oops.. you forget to bring it back with you, your place burns down or gets robbed. I've seen so much bad luck regarding data loss.. At work, I got copies of the main backup on 5 different workstations + occasional DVD external backups + external hard drive for daily external backups. I also keep a weekly copy on random workstations in case some data gets corrupted over time. (Backups are strongly encrypted)

Government? Fear remote access trojans more than government. The govt don't care about you and your data.. but kids do. They forge identities, steal cash, apply for credit cards and so on..

Hardware failure happens very often. What if your hard drive fails and your backup DVD is unreadable? You'll be quite happy to have a remote copy you can restore..

It's quite sad to see people giving low ratings without any good reason.

  5. Comment - The Windows 7 launch: The cultural event of the entire afternoon

    1.6.0.8 Beta (Oct 19, 2009 - 6:14 PM)

Agreed. It doesn't matter much since Macs will never reach as many people :) Hope is beautiful.

  6. Comment - Belkin says 'Switch to Mac'

    1.6.0.8 Beta (Nov 13, 2008 - 4:48 AM)

Please, "free" and "Mac" don't fit well together in a sentence. My eyes hurt!

Apple fanboys are funny, they just want to feel different, special.

Keep buying your overpriced products and PLEASE, stop blaming Windows.

  7. Comment - US Internet speeds still slow compared to the rest of the world

    1.6.0.8 Beta (Aug 15, 2008 - 6:28 PM)

It's quite good but I must admit I'm a bit disappointed. Our ISPs and cell companies seem to go backwards. I've been on the 10 Mbps plan (UNLIMITED) for years and they suddenly decided to force limits. The funny thing is they used to tell me: "More than 90% customers don't download more than X GB per month". So, why the limit now? They just can't give me a straight answer. What? Suddenly, 5-10% of the customers are sucking ALL the bandwith? Whatever.

Oh, and Euros got better connections overall. They have amazing upload speeds too..

I like my ISP anyway, rock solid, practically no downtime and my download speed is very stable. I just had to get used to 815KB/s downloads, compared to 1150KB/s heh!

  8. Comment - US Internet speeds still slow compared to the rest of the world

    1.6.0.8 Beta (Aug 15, 2008 - 5:57 PM)

Read carefully guys, MEDIAN download speed. Yes, we can get fast connections here in Canada, but you'll pay big bucks. My ISP offers 50 Mbps but there's limit (combined) of 50 GB. What's the point?! I'm still using the good old unlimited 7 Mbps.

  9. Comment - Students now avoiding IT degrees, despite good job prospects

    1.6.0.8 Beta (Jun 24, 2008 - 5:05 AM)

hahaha funny. Here's what I always say about IT jobs. "No problems? You're useless. Why are you even working here. A few problems popping up? You're guilty. Not doing your job right.."
