Five stars just for the slick looking GUI and the awesome graphics on their webpage. As for the program itself, a solid three and a half stars. It's a bit too resource hungry for my tastes, but it's steadily improving with every version.
Keep up the great work!
7.0 (Sep 12, 2006)
Slightly better than version 6.xx, but not quite up to snuff compared to its Windows-based competitors. Too much focus on pushing the iTunes Store, not enough on user configurability.
2.1 (Sep 8, 2006)
Crash prone (as pointed out by elitegangsta) and unreliable.
Try the excellent Download Them All instead:

3.0 Beta 6 (2.99.6.9030) (Sep 5, 2006)
Excellent little app that is constantly improving!
Thanks, Janne! This program is a lifesaver for someone like me who has to manage thousands of image files throughout the day. None of my expensive digital asset management apps are faster than Locate. Used in combination with FastStone Image Viewer and I-Match, I have no reason to ever open the bloated, inefficient, data-eating monstrosity known as Adobe Bridge.
I would like to suggest that you make the font size user configurable. That's much needed, expecially for people who work on multiple monitors.
2.7 Beta 3 (Aug 20, 2006)
I simply can not live without this program. How do I know? For the past month, I've been working on OS X and there is not one single application even a fraction as good as FastStone image Viewer. I.Am.Dying Over Here! It's torturous trying to manage photos on a Mac without FastStone. Please, please port FastStone Image Viewer to Universal Binary. And add keyword tagging. Please! It's sorely needed, believe me. I guess for now I'll just have to settle for using it only in Windows.

Suck on it, Sony.
You've made your anti-consumer bed; now lie in it.

Great article, Scott. You've summed up these convoluted issues quite nicely. I, for one, am ecstatic that Rupert Murdoch has released his stranglehold from DirectTV; when I found out he bought majority shares, I immediately cancelled my subscription and signed up with DishTV. Let's see what Malone can do...

Very well said, Ed.
My condolences on your loss as well.

What a terrible tragedy. I have very fond memories of James from TechTV. My deepest condolences to his family.
