  1. Review - HTTrack Website Copier for Windows

    3.33 Beta 2 (Aug 1, 2004)

It is fast and efficient. I have only noted it to be a bit slow when doing sites that rely heavily on flash. Other wise a 5/5 in my book

  2. Review - Vuze for Windows

    2.1.0.4 (Jul 10, 2004)

I have yused it from time to time, but for some reason I just don't trust JAVA Apps. I use this or LanSpirit's BitSpirit (www.lanspirit.com). It has at the moment work well.

I will play with azureus a bit more, I know it is the favorite client in OSX and Linux. For now it works well, no bugs, no slowdown...

  3. Review - WinMX

  4. Comment - Google Offers to Host Wikipedia

    3.52 Beta 5 (Feb 11, 2005 - 5:42 PM)

I think I will call you crazy also.

From what I have seen, google has been expanding their horizons, but unlike Microsoft, they have not been charging for most of the expansions they are doing. Gmail is fantastic, google search is getting better, maps.google.com is a lot simpler than mapquest and not to talk about their expansions into local information search like shops, food etc.

I am the least afraid of Google, vs Microsoft taking over the world. I think they are really innovating how the internet works and works for us. There hasnt been much excitement in the internet til Google began investing ideas into it.

Frankly I don't want them to stop.

  6. Comment - Doom 3 Leaks Out

    3.52 Beta 5 (Aug 5, 2004 - 3:00 AM)

So what if D3 leaked to the web... Its not the first game that leaks and in the next 10 years it won't be the last.... Jeez you guys are getting the same sickness Slashdot has been having for a while... Stick to what you know and leave rumors and ramblings to lamer websites.

Further on, I myself downloaded the torrent. I have a couple of good reasons to have gotten the leak... Number one even though I consider my PC to be pretty much high end, D3 has this thing that my PC might have not had the guts to run it. I found out that it does run it very well. My PC is a AMD Athlon 2800XP w/1.5gb DDR 400 Ram, ATI 9600 Pro and Audigy 2 Soundcard. I have 7.1 speakers to boot. Second, D3 isn't that far fetched into being impossible to run. Here is a tweak I recommend you doing if you want to grab better framerates and faster gameplay:

Go into /base inside the Doom3 folder, there find a file called, DoomConfig.cfg and inside that file find a setting called seta image_cacheMegs. This setting depending on your computer can have a setting of "32" or "20". If you have 512mb of Ram or more, I recommend you raising this value to "256".

On my system I have it set like this: seta image_cacheMegs "256" the performance this brought to the overall gameplay was earth to heaven. Enourmous. Im also using a windows Accelerator called Hare 1.5.1 (which you can also get it leaked from the web...). My PC is running Doom 3 at Ultra high, with 1024x78 and I have from 30 to 40 fps.

On the other hand, I think id misued its own engine. The game has a dark setting and true, for the first 15 minutes of the game you get creamed in your pants. But then its the same old, boring, looking to kill hellspawn... After killing the first 2 bosses, It has gotten quite repetitive. The technology Carmack designed is awesome, don't get me wrong, but Doom 3, is not the game which will really wow you with it. Wait till the modders start working with the engine, and better scripted mods come out.

Frankly I think D3 is all hype. I have an inside source of Valve, as well as being on the team beta, that I can assure you, HL2 will be GOTY for PC, Doom 3 will have a technology mention... but its not GOTY...

My 02 cents. And yeah, if I can get a game leaked first, I will download it, if its good to have I will buy it, and if not, It will remain in my harddrive for a long time till I need more space.

  7. Comment - Microsoft Plans Interim Service Pack 2 Release

    3.52 Beta 5 (Jul 11, 2004 - 4:40 AM)

I have been using RC2 since its release and unless I have just not noticed any of the so called "bugs" or maybe it is I have nto come across them, It has performed pretty well. Specially with Kapersky Antivirus PErsonal Edition, I dropped NAV in favor to that so that windows could monitor it internally.

But still I have noticed and have kept thinking how all this crap of viruses and trojans began with being nasty tricks, now basically you cannot get online without a good antivirus and a firewall. This is nuts.... But contrary to what you point out, that windows being the OS used by most people in the world, this doesn't give them an excuse to not update the OS properly. I am a power user on Windows Platform, but I had the experience recently to have a Mac with OSX installed. If you compare, the userbase on the mac proportionally to the userbase on Windows, Macs get a lot more atention from Apple than we do from Windows. Basically, you can see usefull objects and upgrades not just bugfixes every month. While on windows all we get us critical this and critical that. I have also noted that Apple has been since the first OSX revealed been making significant upgrades every year more or less for its current version of the OS. With Windows we see a new build every what 4yrs? That sucks... Microsoft is only innovating on the games area with the Xbox, on the OS part we have been with the same old technology on Windows XP for nearly 3 years and a half.

This is what I mean when it would be much easier on the consumers if Microsoft invested some of that cash on making usefull updates to its OS every year thus enabling users to have the option to puechase a mayor revision in 4years ahead than suffering with crappy patches and RC SP's every now and then.

I sincerely hope that the world wakes up and notices that software we left behind just because they lost some Browser, or OS or whatever War is picking on their toes because they are listening to the users and the consumers and are delivering true secure software to our end. This softwarte doesn't have to be perfect, like Mozilla's firebird had a security issue a bit back, but they fixed it in a snap.

Better software should be rolled out yearly freely and bigger enhancements sold every 4 years or so... TO have much better computing. If I had the cash honestly I would purchase a Mac just for internet stuff and have my pc for games and office work... Mac's at least don't suffer as much as pc's in the virus deptartments....

  8. Comment - Court Sounds Death Knell for 321 Studios

    3.52 Beta 5 (Jun 20, 2004 - 2:36 PM)

Don't take me as a pesimist, but is that what open source is becoming? A place where unlawful applications or rogue programs go so they get implemented? I guess viruses and other law breaking applications should move to Open Source and flourish.

Don't take me wrong I use all of 321's apps specially the gamexcopy... but Open Source shouldn't be where rogue apps end up. In the end if they stop making it, you can stop being a decent guy(or girl) and just download it from emule... Either way you are circunventing the law because its going to be illegal regardless you copy it or you get it by open source.
