Topic: The notebook PC is king
While businesses continue to purchase desktop PCs in bulk, at least ensuring the existence of cheap case manufacturers, the world's leading PC manufacturers are shifting most of their consumer focus away from the desktop and toward notebooks, where standardized platforms are coupled with brand-name innovations.
And you thought breaking the $400 netbook price barrier was a milestone? Okay, maybe it was, but what would you want for...say, $89?

Intel has given its low-cost Classmate PC laptop a makeover at CES 2009, adding a touch screen and making the 8.9-inch display swivel 180 degrees and morph into a tablet PC. Sorry, Netbook fans -- this one's for students.

UPDATED HP has had a reputation for delivering sturdy, competent, but unexciting hardware without a lot of pizzazz in the marketing department. As folks used to say, if HP was selling sushi, they'd market it as "cold, dead fish."
