IFPI site hacked amid Pirate Bay trial

The Swedish language Web site belonging to the International Federation of the Phonographic Industry -- which is leading the legal charge against file sharing site The Pirate Bay -- was hacked this afternoon and has been pulled offline.

At around 7:50 pm Central European Time, the Web site for the IFPI -- the international recording industry's representative body -- was replaced with a bulletin, or rather a declaration of war, which read (translated):

Stop lying HÅKAN ROSWALL!

The ruthless hunt conducted by the IFPI, Anti-Piracy Office, Warner Bros., and all the other companies with a pawn in the game has now resulted in a trial in which four innocent men are accused of copyright infringement.

This is a declaration of war against anti-piracy and the industry players behind it, and we urge the public to boycott and lynch those responsible. IFPI is just a beginning. To be Continued.

Hakan Roswall, member of the Swedish Chamber of Prosecutors, is the lead prosecuting attorney in the trial.

The message, signed by "The New Generation," (with a post script of "Credz to: anakata, TiAMO and brokep," a shout out to three of the Pirate Bay's founders involved in the trial) was up for nearly an hour before it was removed, when the site was taken down for maintenance. While hacks like these are meant simply to be a psychological attack, the call for a lynching constitutes a legitimate threat.
