RSS1M iPhone 3G S sold over weekend, Jobs claims lead

According a statement from Apple today, between Friday's launch of the iPhone 3GS and Sunday evening, its third full day on the market, more than one million units were sold, and six million customers downloaded the iPhone 3.0 software.
Apple's ailing but soon-to-be-returning CEO Steve Jobs said, "Customers are voting, and the iPhone is winning. With over 50,000 applications available from Apple's revolutionary App Store, iPhone momentum is stronger than ever."
Since the 3G S is an evolutionary upgrade rather than a complete change in function and design, analysts were expecting its sales to be only around 500,000. Instead, this launch was on par with last year's launch of the iPhone 3G, which also sold one million units in its first weekend. The first iPhone, by comparison, did not reach its one millionth sale until 74 days after its launch.
This morning's statement from Jobs was his first since the strangely unsourced news on Saturday (confirmed since then by CNBC's Jim Goldman) that he had received a liver transplant two months ago. Apple is not confirming that news, but it is not denying it either, and is telling the press that he plans to return to work perhaps as soon as July.
I went to the Apple store and did the AT&T upgrade for $199. Should have mine in the next few days. This will be my first iPhone and if it blows chunks I'll sell it on eBay for $500+ and go back to using my RAZR, which still works quite well..

|Some people make me laugh. I have owned many differnt kinds of phones from blackberries, to Microsoft's smartphones and in my opinion none of them compare to the Iphone. I didn't stand in line like most people did over the weekend and on the launch day since Im not able for an upgrade yet. With the way things are right now and the job market I can't afford to shell out 600 bucks. I am due for an upgrade for my iphone in July so I will be looking to pick one of the 3Gs's then. Im also not one of the fan boys of anything. But I must say the Iphone is one of the best cell phone/Ipod that I have ever owned. Its simple to use, the applications are great (theres just about an app for anything you want to do). I don't know why people are knocking thie phone??? Why cause its made by Apple?? I work in IT and Apple is the only company that has made innovative products in the past 5 years. All you people that are knocking the Iphone for no reason tells me something things. 1. you are just jelous cause you don't have one, 2. You can't afford one, 3. You are very board at home and have nothing better to do in life. I bet if you were to get an Iphone for yourself your whole entire perspective will change. And for the record the Iphone is the reason why I switched from sprint to ATT and the phone is great and so is the service.

|Members of the Chruch of Apple have alot of money to spend. More then half the people I know that upgraded this weekend already had an iPhone and paid full price $599 for this AWESOME new phone....
But really it's only 6 tanks of gas...

|Knock it all you want, the iPhone changed the idea of what a general consumer wanted on a phone. The same way the iPod changed digital music players: They made it easy to use. Yes Smartphones and blackberries have all these features and stuff the iPhone doesn't. Features are great, but if it's not easy to use or understandable for the general user, then whats the point? Thats why so many companies have brought out their own variation of the iPhone model. No i don't own an iPhone (but have played with one and have coworkers and friends, both geek and not, who have one and love it!) but nowadays i'm enticed to make my next phone purchase a smartphone of some sort, be it blackberry or some other brand now that it's getting interesting :)

|Unless you have some serious expertise and objective reasons for calling anyone idiots, you just come across as sounding like one yourself.
That said, many of the people getting the 3G S's are probably the same ones who picked up the 3G when it first came out; Early Adopters tend to like to get them first, and anyone who went through the difficult steps to get one first last time is probably willing to pay to keep up with the latest.
