AMD Unveils New Mobile Gaming CPUs

AMD on Monday added two new mobile gaming processors to its 64-bit lineup, the Turion 64 Mobile MT-37 and MT-40. The new processors will first be available from VoodooPC, a manufacturer of high-end laptops.

The MT-37 and MT-40 feature a thin and light design, and consume 25 watts of power. They are slower than the "ML" line of chips, AMD's second other mobile processors that consume up to 35 watts.

AMD designed the Turion to be used in thin notebooks in an attempt to directly challenge the dominance of the Intel Pentium M processor.

The new processors will be available in the a:538 and a:228 notebooks from VoodooPC. The models had not appeared in the company's online store as of Monday afternoon, although AMD said that they laptops were immediately available.

"The match-up of our exclusive design capability and AMD’s latest 64-bit mobile technology gives us an edge to deliver highly mobile gaming performance, quiet operation and ultimate style," Rahul Sood, president and chief technology officer of VoodooPC, said in a statement.

Pricing of the processors has been set at $268 USD for the MT-37 and $359 USD and for the MT-40 in 1,000 unit quantities.
